Chapter 094: Life and Death Struggle (Part 2)
Chapter 094: Life-and-Death Fight (Part 2)
"You win!"
With the sound, a figure appeared at the edge of the woods—it was Chu Fei. A trace of helplessness crossed his face as he looked at Chen Yaxin, who was being held hostage. Although he didn't consider himself a good man, he truly couldn't bring himself to watch someone die. If this really was a trap, so be it.
Chen Yaxin, however, was completely frozen. She stared at that figure in shock, her mind filled with disbelief—Chu Fei had actually obeyed and stepped out of the darkness.
Was he insane?
She couldn't understand... because her worldview told her that no normal person would ever show themselves in a situation like this.
A hero saving a beauty?
Chen Yaxin quickly dismissed the thought. She wasn't so narcissistic as to believe her beauty could make Chu Fei forget life and death.
"Hahaha, you actually came out?"
The two bandits hadn't expected Chu Fei to come out either. They froze for a moment, but soon their faces lit up with excitement as their weapons aimed straight at Chu Fei...
Chu Fei didn't dodge. He glanced at Chen Yaxin, who was staring at him in astonishment, then raised his head to look at the bandits and said in a deep voice, "I've come out. Let her go."
"Let her go? Fine!"
The big man holding Chen Yaxin bared his teeth in a grin, looking at Chu Fei with mockery. "But you have to come over here first. You're too fast—I don't want to watch you slip away again."
"Fine!"
Chu Fei nodded. He didn't bargain; he simply walked straight toward the two bandits... He moved quickly, closing the distance to a few meters in the blink of an eye...
"Stop!"
The lead bandit shouted.
"..."
Chu Fei obediently halted, looking at the two bandits and saying, "I've already come over. Now can you let her go?"
"Let her go? When did I ever promise to let her go?" The lead big man suddenly burst into loud, unbridled laughter. His eyes as he looked at Chu Fei were filled with derision, like a wolf toying with its prey...
"You're breaking your word?"
Chu Fei frowned, but his face remained calm, showing not the slightest surprise, as if he had long expected them to renege.
"Word? Can you spend word as money?"
The bandit laughed heartily, as if he had just heard the greatest joke in the world, and stared at Chu Fei with contempt. "I'm going to kill you today, and I'm going to have fun with your woman too. Damn it, waiting for you to leave Kun City, my brothers and I haven't had a single hot meal or a good night's sleep in days. Looks like today we can finally relax, haha—"
Chu Fei's eyes narrowed. They had been waiting for him to leave Kun City for days? What did that mean?
Thinking this over, Chu Fei asked, "You've been waiting for a chance to kill me?"
"So what if we have?" The lead bandit seemed truly pent up, and instead of attacking right away, he actually struck up a conversation with Chu Fei.
"Why not do it inside Kun City? What are you afraid of?" Chu Fei asked. The bandit's earlier words left him baffled, with no clue at all.
"Afraid? What would we be afraid of? We just didn't do it in Kun City, that's all. Can't we care about not hurting innocent people?" The bandit seemed to have been asked something taboo, and his face suddenly turned savage.
Chu Fei didn't press further, but the bandit's words only made him even more puzzled.
Just then, Chen Yaxin, whose neck was being gripped, suddenly strained with all her might, broke free of the bandit's hold, and shouted frantically at Chu Fei: "Chu Fei, run! Hurry! They'll kill you—"
As she shouted, she even spread her arms wide to block the bandits, trying to stop them from chasing Chu Fei.
---
This happened too fast, too suddenly. Not only were the bandits caught off guard, but Chu Fei was too...
By the time he snapped back, he saw the bandit's dagger flash with a cold glint, stabbing viciously toward Chen Yaxin's back...
"Damn it!"
Chu Fei cursed inwardly, but his body lunged forward in an instant, appearing beside Chen Yaxin like a streak of lightning...
The bandit only felt his wrist tighten, and then a piercing pain shot straight into his heart...
"Crack—"
Chu Fei had seized the bandit's wrist in that instant and twisted it lightly, snapping the bones...
"Argh—"
A miserable shriek tore from the bandit's mouth...
But Chu Fei didn't pause for even a moment...
All of this was done in an instant, in less than a single blink. After breaking the bandit's wrist, Chu Fei swept up the still-stunned Chen Yaxin in his arms, twisted his body, and shot into the forest like lightning. He didn't move in a straight line but in an S-pattern, disappearing deep into the woods after a few flashes...
"Bang! Bang!"
Only then did two gunshots echo through the air...
But Chu Fei had moved too fast. The bandit who had been attacked didn't even have time to react and fire. By the time he finally raised his gun, Chu Fei's figure had already vanished into the forest...
"Damn it!"
The lead bandit's face was pale with pain, his forehead covered in cold sweat. The agony of broken bones wasn't easy to endure, but he had no time to worry about that now. He cursed loudly: "What the hell are you all standing there for? Chase him! Don't let him get away!"
"Yes!"
The companion grabbed his gun and charged without hesitation into the jungle...
At the same time, there was movement in the distant woods as well... It was more of the bandits' accomplices, and they all gave chase too...
"Bastard!"
The lead bandit cursed viciously, grabbed a pistol, and went after them...
---
"Chu Fei, put me down and save yourself. Don't worry about me—"
Chen Yaxin felt like she was on a roller coaster, a hundred times worse than one. The trees on both sides blurred past, making her dizzy and violently nauseous...
But she could clearly hear the sound of pursuit behind them, so she forced back the urge to vomit and raised her head to speak to Chu Fei. She felt that he had already done enough by saving her, and there was no reason for her to drag him down further.
"Shut up!"
Chu Fei said coldly, but his movements didn't pause at all. They had already gone deep into the mountains, into true wild forest. Yet Chu Fei felt his heart ease...
They were safe.
That was what Chu Fei believed...
The bandits were definitely not just two. There had been at least three gunmen firing earlier, maybe even more. That was also why Chu Fei had grabbed Chen Yaxin and fled at the first moment—if he stayed in place without knowing the enemy count, he would only be waiting to die.
But now it was different. Having lured the bandits deep into the wild jungle, Chu Fei held absolute command of the terrain. Most importantly, he had read their nature. They weren't professional killers, but they weren't street thugs either. Ordinary thugs couldn't have such fierce weapons. If nothing went wrong, they were a band of mercenaries.
This was also clear from the bandit's voice. Though his Mandarin was fluent, it carried a hint of stiffness that was hard to hide. The voice felt somewhat familiar to Chu Fei, as if it belonged to mercenaries from Vietnam.
And this also cleared up the last doubt in Chu Fei's mind.
China was the world's公认 mercenary forbidden zone. An independent mercenary organization absolutely couldn't exist there. Chu Fei had been wondering where these hired guns had come from, but the answer that they were from overseas made perfect sense.
So they were mercenaries. So what?
Even if they were those ferocious mercenary killers from Vietnam, Chu Fei felt no fear at all—only a stronger killing intent stirred in him. Because he was the king of the mercenary world...
The mercenary world had a King's Ranking. Among the top ten, five were from the same mercenary organization—the Blood Serpent. And Chu Fei, code name Dark Dragon, was even better known in the mercenary world as the Shadow Dragon. Ranked second worldwide, second only to the mysterious Mr. X, whose identity no one knew, Chu Fei was the unrivaled sovereign of solo combat in the mercenary world.
If those mercenaries knew that the man they were hunting was the Shadow Dragon, ranked second on the King's Ranking, they would surely be scared out of their wits and flee in terror at once...
Especially in wild jungle like this, Chu Fei was the undisputed emperor...
But now they didn't even have a chance to flee.
Because the emperor of the jungle had already begun his counterattack...
"Stay hidden here. Don't move!"
Chu Fei set Chen Yaxin behind a patch of brush, dropped a single order, and before she could respond, his figure vanished from the spot like a ghost...
The sight made the nauseated Chen Yaxin's eyes go wide with shock, so much so that she momentarily forgot all her discomfort...
---
Meanwhile.
Less than ten kilometers from "Old Dong's Farmhouse" lay a stretch of water, with a row of buildings along the shore. It was another small fishing-village farmhouse, but even more desolate—not a single guest in sight.
Though there were no guests, one of the fairly clean wooden cabins had a light on. Several people stood by the window looking out at the water. Two of them led the group, and one was none other than the man Chu Fei had met once before—Mu Feixue.
Under the dim light, his temperament was all the more feminine, cold, and forbidding, making people keep their distance. Apart from one cultured-looking man beside him, everyone else stayed far away.
"Chief Steward, those Vietnamese ghosts have already made their move."
A young man walked in briskly from outside, stopped behind Mu Feixue, and reported respectfully.
"Is that so? They've already made their move?" Mu Feixue turned and glanced at the young man.
"They've made their move, but it seems Chu Fei has escaped deep into the mountains and wasn't killed on the spot." The young man reported what he had learned.
"That's only natural. If he'd been killed right away, I would have been sorely disappointed." Mu Feixue's lips curved slightly as he said this calmly.
The young man didn't dare respond.
"Besides those Vietnamese ghosts, several other teams of professional killers are also lurking this time, ready to strike at any moment." At this point, the cultured-looking man beside Mu Feixue suddenly spoke. He turned to look at Mu Feixue. "You've secretly been interfering to keep them from acting in Kun City. Tonight, Chu Fei leaving the city might be their only chance. They certainly won't let it go. They may even be nearby already, waiting for an opening..."
"Chu Fei isn't so easy to kill." Mu Feixue said it flatly, giving no explanation, just that one light sentence.
"And if he does die?" the cultured man asked.
"Then he dies. Plenty of people die these days. I'll just take it as having misjudged him." Mu Feixue said indifferently.
"You're really that confident?" The cultured man was genuinely surprised.
Mu Feixue suddenly turned around and gave the man a faint smile. "Because he is Chu Zangtian's son."
