Chapter 86: In a Difficult Position
Chapter Eighty-Six: A Difficult Encounter
“Isn’t that my old classmate, Chu Fei?”
At the drawling, mocking voice, a group of people appeared at the bend of the corridor. At their head was a young man dressed with impeccable taste. He was broad-shouldered, strikingly handsome, and though not quite as good-looking as Chu Fei, he was still the sort of man who would be called a real heartthrob.
Chu Fei frowned at once.
He had never expected to run into Wang Zhenhua in a place like this. It was truly a narrow road for enemies.
His first instinct was to turn and leave. He had no connection at all with Wang Zhenhua.
But Wang Zhenhua refused to let him go. He quickened his pace and blocked Chu Fei’s way, frowning as he said, “What’s wrong, old classmate? You don’t even say hello when you see me. Isn’t that a little rude?” His tone was displeased.
“Am I that familiar with you?”
Chu Fei lifted his head.
If it had been some other former classmate, he might have exchanged a few polite words. But he had no goodwill toward Wang Zhenhua at all. Even a fool could see that this man had no good intentions rushing up now.
“Chu Fei, what do you mean by that? Looking down on me?” Wang Zhenhua’s expression darkened.
“Nothing much. I’m just telling the truth,” Chu Fei said calmly. The scene at the class reunion had already shown him Wang Zhenhua’s motives, so there was no reason to be polite.
“You—”
Wang Zhenhua’s face grew even uglier. He had not expected Chu Fei to leave him so completely without face. He had meant to shame Chu Fei in front of a few friends, only to find himself humiliated instead.
If he had not already known Chu Fei had been doing poorly these past years, he might actually have begun to feel uneasy. Chu Fei’s manner was too composed. In this society, someone that steady was either a fool with no sense of the world or a person with real ability.
And Chu Fei looked nothing like some witless fool.
A faint regret rose in Wang Zhenhua’s heart. He truly had too much free time to come looking for trouble.
Just as he was about to back down and leave, a beautiful woman in a slit dress stepped out from the group. In a coy voice she asked, “Zhenhua, who is this?”
As she spoke, she walked up and frowned at Chu Fei with an air of arrogant superiority.
“Huahua, this is my high school classmate. We just happened to run into each other...” Wang Zhenhua hurriedly smiled and introduced her to the woman, his tone almost ingratiating.
“Your old classmate speaks so rudely. How impolite,” the woman sniffed. Though she was only in her early twenties, her makeup and style made her look far more mature, with a distinctly worldly air.
Chu Fei was irritated enough to laugh. He thought, Who did I provoke now? He was just about to turn and leave this trouble spot when the woman said coldly, “I don’t care who you are. Apologize to my darling right now, or don’t blame me for not being polite, I’m Niu Huahua.” Her voice was fiercely domineering.
Wang Zhenhua’s expression changed. He hurriedly said, “Huahua, don’t lower yourself to his level.” Saying this, he reached for the woman and was about to leave. Inside, he was groaning in misery. He knew Chu Fei’s temper very well; there was no way he would apologize. He was afraid Chu Fei’s reaction would only further anger the woman. This Niu Huahua was a woman he had finally won over after exhausting every trick he had. Unlike the women he had been with before, her background was anything but ordinary. Rumor had it that her father was now a highly favored man before Liu Huamei, the most powerful figure in Kun City, and his influence was terrifying. Wang Zhenhua could say he had used every ounce of effort to win her over, and he still had not even managed to sleep with her. He was even thinking of marrying her, so that he would never need to struggle for the rest of his life.
His own family background had been decent enough, and in the years after graduation he had done quite well for himself. But that was only considered upper-middle-class. Compared with Niu Huahua, he was far behind.
That was why he was so nervous now.
Chu Fei was so angered he almost laughed. He stopped and looked at the haughty woman. “So, you’re Wang Zhenhua’s new woman? Why should I apologize to him, hmm?”
“What do you mean, new woman?” Niu Huahua ignored Chu Fei’s answer and turned to Wang Zhenhua with a frown. “Wang Zhenhua, what did he just mean? Haven’t you been telling me all along that you’ve never had a girlfriend, that I’m your first love? What was he talking about?”
“Uh, Huahua, don’t misunderstand. You know the nature of my work. In these times, if you want to succeed in society, you inevitably have to put on an act sometimes and keep drinking with business associates. You understand that, right?” Sweat instantly broke out on Wang Zhenhua’s forehead, and he hurriedly explained. By now he deeply regretted coming to trouble Chu Fei at all.
“That’s true.” Niu Huahua seemed to trust him, nodding in understanding.
Wang Zhenhua let out a breath of relief. Fortunately, this woman was simple-minded, or he really would not have been able to talk his way out of it. He shot Chu Fei a vicious glare, then urged Niu Huahua to leave with him. He was genuinely frightened now. Once might still be explained away, but if Chu Fei uttered a few more things he ought not to say, then he could forget about making his way in this circle ever again.
Yet before Wang Zhenhua could speak, the private room door beside them suddenly swung open. An alluring, sultry woman walked out from inside. It was Xi Menlu.
“Huh? Chu Fei, didn’t you leave? What are you doing here?”
When Xi Menlu saw Chu Fei at the door, she froze. Then she noticed Wang Zhenhua beside him, and her delicate brows immediately drew together. “Oh? Isn’t this Wang Zhenhua? What a coincidence. Come back here to drink and carouse again?” Xi Menlu was extremely sharp. One glance was enough for her to grasp the situation. In choosing sides, she naturally stood without hesitation on Chu Fei’s side.
“Xi Menlu, hello.”
Wang Zhenhua’s smile was stiff. As he spoke, he secretly glanced at Niu Huahua beside him. He knew all too well how petty and unreasonable this woman could be.
As expected, when Niu Huahua saw Xi Menlu, she first froze, then her face darkened. She turned to Wang Zhenhua. “Wang Zhenhua, no wonder you rushed over here all frantically. This foxlike woman is also one of your old classmates, isn’t she?” Her gaze at Wang Zhenhua turned icily sharp.
“She, she’s Xi Menlu. She is indeed my old classmate, but I really’m not close with her,” Wang Zhenhua said, and this time real cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He had not expected Chu Fei to be with Xi Menlu. If he had known, he would rather have died than come over. Wasn’t this just courting death?
Niu Huahua was a stubborn woman, and though she had plenty of faults, she was not a fool. She would not lose her temper with Wang Zhenhua in front of outsiders. Instead, she turned back toward Chu Fei and Xi Menlu. “I don’t care who you are. Just now you were rude to my boyfriend. Apologize right now, or don’t blame me for being rude.” She had actually dumped her anger straight onto Chu Fei and Xi Menlu. As for her reason, there was none at all. If this old lady is unhappy now, then you must apologize. That was Niu Huahua’s principle.
Chu Fei was thoroughly exasperated. Right then Xi Menlu asked in a low voice, “How did you end up provoking this woman? Don’t tell me she’s also one of your bedmates?”
Chu Fei shot her an irritated look. Did this woman have to tease him to death? Him? With a woman like this as a bedmate? Was he blind?
“What now? Not going to apologize, is that it? Heh—”
Seeing that the two people in front of her ignored her completely and were even exchanging looks, Niu Huahua’s anger flared higher. She directly pulled out her phone and called the KTV security office. “This is Niu Huahua. Some bastard just sexually harassed me. Send someone to the second floor at once.”
After hanging up, she looked at Chu Fei with a cold smile, her chin lifted high with smug arrogance.
Wang Zhenhua, standing off to the side, was also growing excited. He had not expected things to develop to this point. He thought Niu Huahua was truly ridiculous to go head-to-head with Chu Fei like this. But he did not stop her. It would be perfect to watch Chu Fei get dealt with by Niu Huahua. He knew all too well how much influence she had, especially here in Joyful Heaven KTV, where she had raised a scene more than once.
Chu Fei and Xi Menlu exchanged a glance.
Just then, perhaps feeling his courage had returned, Wang Zhenhua suddenly looked at Xi Menlu and sneered. “Xi Menlu, I really don’t understand what’s going on in that head of yours. What’s so good about Chu Fei that you’re so stubbornly loyal to him?”
“Wang Zhenhua, you...” Xi Menlu’s expression changed. She had barely begun to speak before Wang Zhenhua cut her off, his tone still dripping with mockery and a touch of gloating. “I know you don’t like hearing this, but back then, how much better would it have been if you’d accepted Jiang Chuan’s pursuit? If you had nodded your head then, you might be the young mistress of the Jiang family now. Why would you still need to expose yourself and run a little company?”
“Wang Zhenhua, shut your mouth.” Xi Menlu’s face had gone green with anger.
“Heh heh—”
Wang Zhenhua gave a few cold laughs and said nothing more. Since the mask had been torn away, he naturally no longer bothered with politeness. As for Xi Menlu, he had not actually wanted to offend her before. First, she was Xu Shiqi’s sworn best friend. Even if one wanted to hit a dog, one still had to look at the master. Xu, the class monitor, was now the fiancée of the young heir of the Dongyu Group, and Wang Zhenhua did not have the nerve to provoke that kind of person.
But today he could not concern himself with that. Xi Menlu’s appearance had caused Niu Huahua to develop a prejudice against him. He deliberately made things difficult for Xi Menlu, not only because he was unhappy, but also to show off in front of Niu Huahua.
Sure enough, after hearing Wang Zhenhua’s words, Niu Huahua’s expression improved noticeably, and she even took the initiative to loop her arm through Wang Zhenhua’s, displaying their intimacy.
Wang Zhenhua immediately breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he had made the right bet.
While he felt more at ease, Xi Menlu’s face became extremely ugly. She stared hard at Wang Zhenhua, yet had no way to explain herself.
Just then, a burst of footsteps sounded down the corridor, and several burly men in security uniforms appeared in the hall.
Among the security guards was also a coquettish young woman, dressed in a black skirt and white blouse, crisp and neat, her face also very alluring.
“Jiang Xue, why did you come over here?”
Niu Huahua froze when she saw the group approaching, then cried out in surprise and excitement. She let go of Wang Zhenhua’s arm and went forward to greet the girl.
But the lovely girl surrounded by the security guards merely walked straight past Niu Huahua, completely ignoring the pair of eager hands Niu Huahua had extended.
