Chapter 119: Trifles [A Beauty's Profound Grace]

After receiving Chu Fei's answer, Xiao Jing got into her car and left, as if her sole purpose in coming was to secure a promise from him.

Chu Fei went directly to Red Moon Villa.

"Are you really determined to go alone?" Blood Fox asked as Chu Fei walked in. He was blunt; there were no secrets between the two of them.

"How else should I go? With a pack of lackeys? This isn't a war." Chu Fei shrugged. Being used by Fu Ziqing left him feeling irritated, but there was no helping it; some things had to be faced, and he had no choice.

"This birthday banquet is no simple affair. The Fu and Lin families have likely been preparing for a long time, just waiting for you to walk into their trap," Blood Fox noted gravely.

"So what? Even if it’s a mountain of blades or a sea of fire, I have to jump," Chu Fei laughed heartily.

"I admire that. I truly admire that reckless, death-defying spirit of yours, you idiot," Blood Fox chuckled.

"Get lost, or do you want me to smack you?" Chu Fei retorted with a laugh, then glanced at him. "How have things been developing on your end lately?"

"On the surface, everything is fine. Liu Huamei is a very capable person; Red Moon is thriving," Blood Fox remarked with emotion. "I never expected her to have such immense ability; it truly exceeded my imagination."

"Blood Fox, I don't mean to dampen your spirits, but aren't you trusting Liu Huamei a bit too much?" Chu Fei frowned as he looked at the demonically handsome face of his friend. It wasn't that he had a grudge against her, but he sensed a growing blind arrogance in Blood Fox that worried him.

"Don't worry, I know what you're concerned about," Blood Fox said with a natural smile. "Liu Huamei is a smart person. She won't, and wouldn't dare, betray me."

"There are always accidents in everything. You’d be better off keeping your guard up." Chu Fei added, fearing a misunderstanding: "Don't be angry. I know she's your woman now, and I'm not targeting her; I just think you should be more meticulous."

"I understand." Blood Fox nodded earnestly, then smiled confidently. "Rest assured, betrayal will never happen to me. Liu Huamei wouldn't dare."

"Very well."

Chu Fei didn't press the matter further. After a moment of hesitation, he asked, "About what I told you regarding Jiang Yin’s schooling—please see to it as soon as possible."

"It's already taken care of," Blood Fox smiled.

"So fast?" Chu Fei was taken aback. Jiang Xue had only mentioned it yesterday, and it was done today?

"Yes, it's that fast." Blood Fox laughed. "You should thank Huamei for this. I handed the task to her, and she used the most direct method: she contacted Donghai University and invested in a new library. The matter was settled immediately."

Chu Fei was left speechless, having to admit that Liu Huamei truly had a bold, decisive nature.

"You came at the right time today. I was just about to tell you. The enrollment procedures are finished, and you can take Jiang Yin to formally enroll this weekend," Blood Fox added.

"Why should I be the one to take her?" Chu Fei asked curiously.

"She's your woman. If you don't take her, do you expect me to?" Blood Fox curled his lip.

"Fine, I'll take her. I need to go to Donghai anyway, so it’s on the way." Chu Fei didn't argue. He knew that in the eyes of Blood Fox and the others, the Jiang sisters were his little mistresses, and he couldn't be bothered to explain otherwise.

Chu Fei spent some time at Red Moon discussing the shifting power dynamics with Blood Fox. In Blood Fox’s words, Red Moon’s development was booming; as long as they continued steadily, everything would fall into place, and it would soon become the largest private corporate group in Kun City.

Blood Fox did not hide from Chu Fei that as Red Moon grew, the old established powers in Kun City were finally losing their patience and beginning to stir. However, he told Chu Fei not to worry. With Liu Huamei managing things in the open and him keeping watch from the shadows, these rivals were nothing more than paper tigers. If they dared to make a move, he wouldn't mind pulling the rug out from under them and eliminating them with an iron fist. Blood Fox was no longer the man he had been upon first arriving in Kun City; he now had his own foundation and leverage, making him much more confident in handling such matters.

Chu Fei offered a word of caution, advising him to keep his wits about him, but said no more. He could clearly feel the change in Blood Fox—from a ruthless mercenary assassin to a mastermind behind the scenes. This shift in status had altered his personality and style, most notably turning his initial pursuit of thrills into a drive for conquest.

Human ambition can expand rapidly. It wasn't there before simply because there was no opportunity, but once an opportunity arose, ambition grew uncontrollably. Blood Fox was the perfect example, gradually evolving into an ambitious schemer. Whether this was good or bad, Chu Fei could not say. Everyone made their own choices, and he would not interfere, only support and assist from the shadows.

Chu Fei wasn't overly worried about Blood Fox's safety. Many people in the world wanted him dead, yet he was still thriving. Besides, Blood Fox was no longer alone; after eliminating Cai Jiu, he had brought in a group of subordinates from the Blood Snake organization. Though not numerous, they were lethal, and it was their presence that had allowed Red Moon to stabilize so quickly.

In Kun City, Blood Fox was, in every sense, the hegemon of the underworld—a fact not even Liu Huamei was aware of. This was the true reason Chu Fei felt at ease.

Leaving Red Moon Villa, Chu Fei did not return to Feilu, but went specifically to see Bai Yanchu.

To the outside world, she was a cold, high-ranking queen, but in front of Chu Fei, she was as gentle and virtuous as a devoted young wife, her eyes filled with quiet affection.

After ordering her staff not to approach her office, Bai Yanchu entered a small, newly installed kitchen and personally prepared a meal for Chu Fei. It wasn't a lavish spread, but it was cozy. She sat on the sofa, propping her chin on her hand, and watched him eat with relish.

"You should eat, too. Staring at me like that makes me feel awkward," Chu Fei said with a smile. He ate naturally; if there was one woman in this world with whom he could be completely relaxed and unguarded, it was his childhood betrothed. They had grown up together, and she understood him better than he understood himself.

Except for intimacy, Chu Fei was like an open book in front of her.

Bai Yanchu obediently picked up her chopsticks, eating only small bites, mostly occupied with picking food for him. Faced with her doting service, Chu Fei felt quite helpless.

"I really didn't expect you to have a kitchen here," Chu Fei remarked.

"I had it specially installed. I couldn't get used to the food around here," Bai Yanchu said softly.

"Well, don't compromise your own comfort. But it’s beneath a boss like you to be cooking. If you have to, I’ll have a chef sent over from South China to cook for you," Chu Fei said seriously.

"You make it sound like I'm some spoiled young lady who can't lift a finger." A flash of tenderness crossed her eyes, but she shook her head. "No need. I only cook occasionally. I’m usually too lazy. I only do it when you’re here. Tell me, has my cooking declined?" She looked at him expectantly.

"Declined? It’s improved significantly. You didn't cook this well before," Chu Fei praised.

"Smooth talker." Bai Yanchu’s eyes crinkled with a smile.

"I’m telling the truth. Your cooking is so good that it would be a waste not to open a restaurant," Chu Fei continued his nonsense; he was quite skilled at making women happy.

"Very well, then. I’ll listen to you and become a chef," Bai Yanchu said with a serious nod.

"Don't, I was just joking. Don't take it seriously." Chu Fei was startled. If Young Master Ji and the Old Scoundrel found out that Bai Yanchu had quit her job to be a chef because of something he said, they would surely come to strangle him. Those hands of hers were meant for making big money.

Bai Yanchu covered her mouth and chuckled: "Even if I did open a restaurant, I would only cook for you. Not just anyone is qualified to eat my food." There was a hint of coquettish pride in her tone that made Chu Fei’s heart skip a beat. His childhood sister was becoming more and more adept at seducing him; he found it hard to resist.

He quickly changed the subject. "What about Young Master Ji and the Old Scoundrel? Would you cook for them?"

"I would, but I wouldn't put any heart into it. I’d add extra salt until they were terrified of eating my cooking ever again," she giggled.

"You really are wicked."

Chu Fei was torn between laughter and tears, surprised by this cute side of her. His smile faded, and he looked at her beautiful face with hesitation. "I came today to tell you that I'm going to Donghai this weekend."

"I see. It is time you went to Donghai. If you don't, Miss Fu might get angry," Bai Yanchu said softly.

"Whether she’s angry or not has nothing to do with me," Chu Fei said dismissively. He then looked at her with a bitter smile. "Does it not bother you at all?"

"What should bother me?" she asked, bewildered.

Before he could answer, she smiled gently. "Silly, don't overthink it. Whatever you do, I will support you."

"Chuchu, you don't have to sacrifice so much for me. I’m not as good as you think," Chu Fei said, his heart heavy. It was always like this; her lack of demands made him feel deeply guilty. Given her means and brilliance, she would be more than qualified to be the mistress of the Ji family, yet she stood by his side, unwavering—like an older sister, yet more like a devoted follower.

Chu Fei rarely felt guilty for anyone, but in front of Bai Yanchu, he felt it time and time again.

He felt guilty, yet he had no way to compensate her. This was exactly why he had come to tell her in person; hearing it from him was entirely different from learning it through others.

Seeing the troubled look on his face, Bai Yanchu suddenly laughed, looking so genuinely happy that it stunned him.

She stood up, walked over, and naturally placed her hands on his shoulders. While gently massaging him, she said softly: "You silly fool. I know you care for me, but I truly don't mind. How many wives you have is your business; I only have you in my heart. As long as you don't abandon me, I am content. And as for you not being 'good enough'—that’s wrong. In my eyes, you are the best man in the world. Because of you, I have dreams."

"But it’s not fair to you," Chu Fei said.

"What is fairness? There is no fairness in this world. The fact that you came to tell me this yourself makes me happy and satisfied. Really, I'm not lying; I am truly happy right now..." She stroked his cheek, her smile gentle.

"Really?" Chu Fei looked at her radiant face, his heart stirred. He caught her hands, pulled her into his arms...

"Ah!"

Bai Yanchu let out a soft exclamation but did not resist. She sat obediently in his lap, their eyes meeting, her face flushed a deep crimson...

Chu Fei gritted his teeth and leaned in, pressing his lips to hers.

A beauty’s grace is profound indeed.

Faced with such an understanding and alluring woman, if he didn't do something, he wouldn't feel like a man at all!
