Chapter 006: The Hidden Heiress
Chapter 006: The Hidden Heiress
“Bang—”
As Chu Fei turned the corner to buy breakfast, a series of loud crashes erupted behind him. Turning around, he saw an old man in tattered clothes sprawled on the ground, screaming in pain. In front of him was a red BMW, stopped abruptly.
The car door was flung open with a thud...
The first thing that caught Chu Fei’s eye was a pair of incredibly alluring legs—long, slender, with a flawless shape, strikingly beautiful.
The driver turned out to be a stunning young woman, barely in her twenties, dressed rather scantily for early spring. Despite it being just April, she wore a short skirt and a light jacket, baring those snow-white legs, accentuated by strappy high heels. Her delicate, heart-shaped face was exquisitely enchanting, with an almost bewitching allure.
Even Chu Fei found himself momentarily dazzled by her presence.
“Sir, are you all right?” The young woman hurried to the old man, her voice tinged with worry.
“All right? Look what you’ve done to me—” the old man groaned, pointing at his legs, now a mess of blood and flesh.
“You ran into my car yourself. I wasn’t driving fast at all…” The woman frowned.
“You hit me and now you’re making excuses…” The old man, shaking with anger, pointed at her and started berating: “Just look at yourself—not a decent bone in your body. Driving a BMW makes you think you’re so great. What kind of person dresses like that? No decency at all…”
The old man’s words grew sharper, and his body trembled with fury.
“That’s right, just because you drive a BMW doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want!”
A murmur rippled through the crowd.
Many bystanders had been watching indifferently until now, but the old man’s accusations stirred them up. In weather like this, who wears so little unless they’re a mistress or some rich man’s plaything?
“You—you’re talking nonsense, I—” The woman’s face had turned as pale as paper with anger.
“Nonsense? Let everyone judge for themselves. Dressed so provocatively, you look like nothing but a little temptress. Hardly respectable…” The old man’s words grew even more unpleasant.
Chu Fei frowned. The old man’s tongue was as sharp as a knife. At this rate, it wouldn’t matter who the woman was—she’d be branded a vixen by everyone here. As he was standing closer to her, he spoke up, “If you can afford a BMW, why quibble over a little money? Just compensate the old gentleman and be done with it.”
“Exactly! Driving a BMW and you’re still haggling over this? Just take the old man to the hospital—have some humanity…”
With Chu Fei’s words, the crowd quickly joined in.
“What did you say? You think I’m the one who hit him?” The beauty glared at Chu Fei, her eyes flashing with hostility.
Chu Fei was speechless. He’d only meant to help, but the woman clearly misunderstood.
Just as he was about to explain, the old man piped up again, “Little minx, he’s right. Do you have no conscience? Either take me to the hospital or pay up. Am I supposed to lie here and die? If anything happens to me, I won’t let you off…”
With those words, the crowd grew even more agitated. Any previous suspicion of a scam vanished, and everyone now sided with the old man.
The young woman’s face grew even darker…
At that moment, someone shouted, “Don’t worry, sir, the police are here—”
At the sound of sirens, the crowd quickly parted. Chu Fei looked over and indeed saw a police motorcycle approaching, the crowd reassuring the old man that the issue would soon be resolved.
But just then, something happened that left everyone utterly dumbfounded.
The old man, whose legs had supposedly been mangled, suddenly sprang up from the ground, nimble as a cat. Before anyone could react, he darted into the crowd, slipped into a nearby alley, and disappeared in the blink of an eye. He moved with astonishing agility.
What the—!
Everyone was left in stunned silence.
Chu Fei, too, stood gaping, especially as he stared at a small blood bag still oozing fake blood on the ground.
A staged accident?
As the truth dawned on the crowd, they scattered in an instant, not a single soul daring to meet the young woman’s gaze.
“You—hmph, I’ll remember you. Don’t let me run into you again!” The woman, clearly in a hurry, shot Chu Fei a venomous glare before jumping back into her BMW and speeding off, not waiting for the police to “solve the case.”
“What just happened here?” asked Officer Ling Yujiao, a rookie policewoman, as she rolled up on her motorcycle, only to find the crowd dispersing in confusion.
“Nothing,” Chu Fei replied, shaking his head, more exasperated than anyone. The woman’s look of contempt before she left left him speechless. What did he do to deserve this?
Ling Yujiao frowned as she watched Chu Fei walk away, biting her lip in frustration. Then, she started her motorcycle and followed him from a distance…
—
Shenghe Plaza was one of the largest commercial centers in Kun City.
The company where Chu Fei worked was located in a high-rise here.
He’d chosen to work here entirely because of Chen Xiaoman, who was also interning at the plaza. Out of complicated feelings, Chu Fei found a job here as well, landing an internship at an advertising company.
His home was only a short walk away, just over ten minutes, but thanks to the rookie cop and the staged accident, he ended up more than ten minutes late to work.
“Chu Fei, you’re late.”
No sooner had he settled into his seat than a sweet, slightly annoyed voice chimed in.
The speaker was a young woman in her early twenties, dressed in a light pink business suit. Her willow-leaf brows and large, sparkling eyes made her face, as creamy and delicate as a duck egg, all the more charming. Even unsmiling, she showed faint dimples that were utterly captivating.
Her beauty was almost excessive.
Yet her attire was simple, her makeup minimal—just the faintest touch. Among office workers, this was rare; her natural beauty easily outshone the average painted face.
But Chu Fei knew she was no ordinary girl. Whether it was the unassuming Vacheron Constantin watch on her wrist or the casually placed limited-edition Louis Vuitton bag in the corner—a piece so rare few existed on the whole continent—it was clear this girl was of extraordinary status.
She was a true heiress.
That was how Chu Fei defined her. Yet, in the few days they’d worked together, he hadn’t sensed a trace of the arrogance typical of the rich.
She was quiet and pure.
“I ran into a scammer on the way and got delayed,” Chu Fei explained apologetically. This girl’s name was Murong Wei, a senior in college now interning at the company. Not only was she his colleague, she was also his “mentor.”
“Excuses,” Murong Wei huffed, glaring at him. “You’ve only been here eight days and you’re late for the third time.”
“It won’t happen again,” Chu Fei promised earnestly.
“Hmph, you said that last time, and yet here you are, late again.” Murong Wei snorted, eyeing him fiercely, as if she wouldn’t let up until he admitted guilt.
“Alright, Mentor, I was wrong…”
“Don’t call me that! I’m not even older than you.” Murong Wei shivered, clearly uncomfortable. She’d first jokingly called herself his mentor, but when Chu Fei started using the title, it began to feel strange—especially when he’d grin mischievously as he said it.
“Heh—”
Chu Fei chuckled, changing the subject. “Why is the office so quiet today? Hasn’t Li the ‘Fly’ come by to bother you yet?”
Li the ‘Fly’ was the nickname Chu Fei had for their team leader, Li Changying. The name sounded imposing, but in Chu Fei’s mouth, it became rather mocking—all because Li was constantly hovering around Murong Wei under the guise of offering guidance, though his real intentions were obvious to everyone.
“Thank goodness Li’s not here. If he saw you late again, you’d be in for it.” Murong Wei wasn’t fooled, continuing to glare at Chu Fei.
“All right, Weiwei, I really am sorry. How about I buy you lunch today?” Chu Fei finally conceded, exhausted by her persistence.
“Hmph, that’s more like it!” Murong Wei replied with a triumphant smirk, as if she’d been waiting for this exact offer, which made Chu Fei want to laugh.
“By the way, why the meeting this early? Did something big happen?” Chu Fei asked casually, booting up his computer.
Murong Wei lowered her voice, “Chu Fei, you’d better behave today. The big boss is back. She came in with a dark expression and summoned all the managers for a meeting. It’s still going on.”
“The big boss? The businesswoman from overseas?” Chu Fei was taken aback. The company, “Feilu Media Advertising and Design,” was a small to mid-sized firm with only fifty or sixty employees. He hadn’t been there long and didn’t know much about the place, except that the boss was a young woman who rarely managed the company in person. She’d been overseas furthering her studies, running things remotely, and only visited once or twice a year.
He’d heard from colleagues that the boss was a stunning beauty, but he hadn’t expected to encounter her return so soon after joining.
Truth be told, Chu Fei was curious about this lady boss.
Just how beautiful could she be?
Could she possibly outshine Murong Wei?
Glancing at the lovely Murong Wei beside him, for some reason, the image of the BMW-driving woman with the flawless legs from earlier flickered through Chu Fei’s mind…
