Chapter 61: Xiao Mimi Is Impressive
Chapter 061: Xiao Mimi Is Impressive
With Chu Fei’s promise, Xiao Mimi clung to him like a piece of stubborn glue, making it impossible for him to shake her off. In the end, it was Chu Fei who, lacking the nerve to parade around with such an alluring girl, ducked into a cake shop with her, ordered a juice, and waited out the time. He had no intention of flaunting a companion so striking out in public; it was simply too conspicuous.
They didn’t leave the cake shop until after eight o’clock. To Chu Fei’s frustration, Xiao Mimi remained glued to his side, claiming she wanted to see his workplace to understand him better. She assured him she’d leave immediately afterward and wouldn’t interfere with his plans to charm other women.
That only made Chu Fei more uneasy. He realized he’d gotten himself into deeper trouble; Xiao Mimi seemed even clingier than Lan Youyou, the petite beauty with the fierce temperament. And so, the two of them chatted idly as they made their way to Feilu Company.
"Wow, Handsome Master, you work here? The company doesn’t look very big!" Xiao Mimi looked around as if she’d discovered a new world, then turned to Chu Fei in surprise. In her mind, Chu Fei was like a god, and the modest surroundings struck her as a huge letdown.
"Disappointed?" Chu Fei smiled nonchalantly. "I’m just a minor employee at a small company, not as impressive as you imagine."
"Hehe, I don’t believe it. Handsome Master, you must be hiding your true identity here, right?" Xiao Mimi laughed and leaned in, her eyes full of curiosity.
Chu Fei was taken aback. He realized women’s intuition could be terrifying—Ximen Lu was like that, and Xiao Mimi was no exception.
But he didn’t bother explaining. "You’ve seen my workplace, now go home. I need to pick up my boss."
"Go ahead, go ahead! I’ll look around a bit more. Don’t worry, I promise not to touch anything." Xiao Mimi waved him off, excitedly heading toward Chu Fei’s desk.
Chu Fei said nothing and turned toward Ximen Lu’s studio.
Bang—
Without knocking, Chu Fei pushed the door open and stopped short; the office was empty, with no sign of Ximen Lu.
Wasn’t she supposed to be working overtime? Where had she gone?
Chu Fei looked around, then called out to the small restroom door inside the office, "Ximen Lu, I’m here to pick you up. Where are you?"
No response.
Chu Fei frowned, quickly walked over, and opened the restroom door; it was empty as well.
Damn it, where had she gone?
Chu Fei stepped back, wondering if she was deliberately playing games with him. Despite the suspicion, he took out his phone and dialed Ximen Lu’s number.
The phone rang five or six times before someone answered, but the voice that came through was not Ximen Lu’s sultry one.
"You must be Chu Fei. Haha, you called so quickly. Looks like you care about your old classmate," said a deep male voice.
"Who are you?" Chu Fei’s heart sank, a sense of foreboding gripping him.
"You don’t need to know who I am. All you need to know is that Ximen Lu is with me. If you don’t want her dead, do exactly as I say." The man’s voice grew lower, tinged with menace.
"Why should I believe Ximen Lu is with you?" Chu Fei forced himself to stay calm, responding coolly.
"You don’t have to. If you don’t, be ready to collect her corpse. But to be honest, your old classmate is quite the beauty—" The man’s voice oozed with malicious laughter.
"Fine. Have Ximen Lu say something to me, and I’ll believe you," Chu Fei relented, taking a step back.
"Sorry, she’s unconscious right now. Can’t talk to you..." The man’s voice was cold, and before Chu Fei could respond, he continued, "I won’t waste words. Come to the foot of Kunshan Mountain immediately, within half an hour. I’ll call you again with further instructions. If you’re late, I can’t guarantee Ximen Lu’s safety."
With that, the man hung up before Chu Fei could reply.
"Damn it!" Chu Fei cursed, slamming his fist onto the desk, his face as dark as the bottom of a pot. He didn’t doubt the caller’s words; Ximen Lu would never joke about something like this. It was too cruel. That left only one explanation: Ximen Lu was in trouble.
From the conversation, Chu Fei believed the target was himself, and Ximen Lu was dragged into it because of him.
"Who could it be?" Chu Fei’s mind raced. The most likely suspect was Liu Ping, the so-called Emperor of Shenghe.
But he had no time to pursue that now. The priority was to find and rescue Ximen Lu. The malicious laugh from the phone replayed in his mind, filling him with anxiety.
Just then—
Bang—
The office door was suddenly pushed open from outside.
Xiao Mimi rushed in like a whirlwind. "Handsome Master, what happened? Why were you shouting just now?"
"Xiao Mimi, go home now. I’ve got something urgent; I can’t accompany you," Chu Fei said flatly, glancing at her as he quickly headed out. He had no time for explanations.
"Huh? What happened?" Xiao Mimi was startled by Chu Fei’s icy demeanor. She glanced around the empty office, her eyes suddenly lighting up. "Hey, your boss isn’t here? And you’re so angry—could it be your boss was kidnapped by bad guys?"
Chu Fei stopped in his tracks and stared at Xiao Mimi...
His expression was odd...
Could this girl be any more uncanny?
"No way! Did I guess right? She really got kidnapped?" Xiao Mimi was startled by Chu Fei’s reaction but quickly became excited. "Handsome Master, you’re going to rescue her, right? Let me come with you, maybe I can help!"
"What can you help with?" Chu Fei was speechless. Though surprised by her intuition, he quickly regained composure, heading out. "You’re right, my boss was kidnapped, I’m going to rescue her now. Go home, don’t add to my trouble." With that, he entered the elevator.
"I’m not trouble! I really can help!" Xiao Mimi squeezed into the elevator with him like a persistent shadow, anxious. "I know hacking! You can’t just rush in blindly to rescue her—I can help you locate the culprit, assess the situation. Know yourself and your enemy, and you’ll win every battle. We can work together!" She even began talking tactics.
"You know hacking?" Chu Fei looked at her in surprise. Her words genuinely astonished him.
"Yes, I’m really good at it. You won’t regret letting me help," Xiao Mimi nodded earnestly, her eyes bright with excitement, as if rescuing someone with Chu Fei was an exhilarating adventure. She pulled out a small laptop from her shoulder bag, proudly patting it. "See? This is my magic weapon—I can definitely help you."
Chu Fei looked Xiao Mimi over carefully, confirming she wasn’t bluffing, then nodded. "Alright, you can come, but you must follow my instructions. No acting on your own."
"Of course! Handsome Master, you say east, I won’t go west. You say squat, I won’t lie down," Xiao Mimi cheered, immediately promising.
Chu Fei was exasperated—her way of speaking was just too easy to misunderstand...
But he didn’t have time to dwell on it. The caller had given him only half an hour. He took Xiao Mimi straight to the underground parking lot, and sure enough, Ximen Lu’s BMW was still parked there.
Chu Fei walked over, pulled out a key, and in a few quick moves opened the car door and started the engine, leaving Xiao Mimi wide-eyed in amazement.
"Damn, Handsome Master, you’re incredible! If you don’t become a car thief, it’s a waste of your talent," Xiao Mimi exclaimed.
"Get in!" Chu Fei barked, tempted to slap her—couldn’t she speak more sensibly?
—
Kunshan Mountain gave Kun City its name and was its very foundation—a small range on the western outskirts. Except for a few scenic spots, the area was desolate and undeveloped, the poorest residents scattered here.
"You’re sure this is the place?" Chu Fei parked the BMW on a dimly lit, barren hillside and turned to Xiao Mimi. On the drive over, he’d come to recognize her true skills—Xiao Mimi hadn’t been bragging. She was a real hacker, and a talented one, easily tracking Ximen Lu’s phone signal.
The caller had demanded Chu Fei arrive at the foot of Kunshan Mountain within half an hour, then await further instructions. But with Xiao Mimi’s tracking, everything changed.
"Absolutely certain. The phone signal is in that little village ahead," Xiao Mimi said confidently, pounding her chest for emphasis. Chu Fei was speechless—she wasn’t afraid of bursting her own chest.
With Xiao Mimi’s confirmation, Chu Fei relaxed slightly. He opened the car door and said, "Stay here in the car. Don’t come out."
"Handsome Master, be careful!" Xiao Mimi called anxiously from behind.
"Mm, you be careful too," Chu Fei smiled gently at her, then slipped down the hillside, vanishing into the darkness.
"Damn, he really is a master—he disappeared in a flash!" Xiao Mimi was startled by his swift movement, but quickly grew excited, grabbing her laptop. Her slender hands flew across the keyboard, and a rapidly moving red dot appeared onscreen, tracking Chu Fei as he approached the village.
"Damn it, why do I feel like I’m being watched?" Chu Fei, moving swiftly, suddenly stopped and scanned his surroundings, eyes alert.
