Chapter 132: The Popular Idol Transfer Student
September 1st.
Shengyu High School had begun its new term. Yun Xuan had been quite fortunate to be selected as the student representative to deliver a speech for the incoming freshmen. The event was scheduled for tomorrow; today was simply to allow the newcomers to adjust to campus life.
The four of them walked together, and as soon as they entered the campus, Yun Xuan noticed quite a few couples showing affection. Well, they were all boys. The reach of the Dark Valkyries was growing, forcing Yun Xuan to head out every night until midnight to clear them out before returning. It was impossible to hide these late-night arrivals from Yun Xun'er, so Yun Xuan simply claimed he was out cultivating. Yun Xun'er, never suspicious, just told him to get some rest early.
"Xuan-kun, do you get the feeling that they are acting a bit strange?" Lin Qingyu whispered.
"That? Well, it's probably because they've been watching too many boys' love anime lately. Don't worry about it, don't worry about it," Yun Xuan said awkwardly, maintaining some distance from Lin Qingyu.
He was afraid that Lin Qingyu might also be drained of her affection. Through his observations, although it was said that the absorption was one hundred percent, it varied from person to person. Most people felt a sense of wariness toward girls like the Dark Valkyries, which prevented them from developing feelings of love. These high schoolers who had fallen victim to the influence likely had weak willpower; after all, they were in the throes of puberty and could not resist the temptations of the Dark Valkyries.
As for a cure, there was one: the tears of true love could restore those who had been affected. However, this solution was absurd. If someone already had a partner of true love, how could they possibly develop romantic feelings for someone else? It was nonsense. Could a change of heart really be considered true love?
"Brother, look at that," Yun Xue said, tugging at Yun Xuan and pointing to a banner.
"A Warm Welcome to Popular Idol Kanon-chan!"
"I feel like I've seen this somewhere before," Yun Xuan recalled.
"Kanon-chan! Kanon-chan! Kanon-chan!"
"Kanon-chan! Kanon-chan! Kanon-chan!"
A synchronized chant erupted, and Yun Xuan looked behind him. A blonde girl walked into Shengyu High School with a smile, flanked by two women dressed in black.
"Oh, so it's her!" Yun Xuan remembered the inexplicably strange girl from that day. So, she was an idol.
"You... you... how are you here?" Horie Kanon asked in surprise upon seeing Yun Xuan.
"I'm a student at this school. You're a transfer student, right?" Yun Xuan glanced at the two women. They were bodyguards from the Thunder Shield agency, carrying handguns at all times, providing perfect protection for their target.
"Yes... hello." Horie Kanon extended her hand.
Yun Xuan shook her hand, drawing envious looks from the surrounding boys, though none dared to rush forward blindly. Shengyu High School, after all, was a place of decorum. The arrival of an idol did not cause much of a stir; even those who wanted to get close to her dared not act recklessly in front of the Thunder Shield security team, unless they had a death wish.
The two let go of each other's hands, and Yun Xuan looked toward the school gate, his brow furrowing. Liu Mengyan and Lin Yao were walking through the gate together.
"Good morning, Yun Xuan." Upon seeing him, Liu Mengyan walked over and said softly.
"Well, we have already annulled our engagement, but due to certain reasons, I still have to stay here. Please take care of me," Lin Yao said, walking up to Yun Xuan with a touch of embarrassment.
"Oh," Yun Xuan replied. He had no particular fondness for Lin Yao; he never liked boys who appeared overly sunny, as he always felt there was something hypocritical about them.
...
As the crowd gathered, Yun Xuan and his group assembled in the plaza. Second-year students would be assigned to classes based on their grades, which would determine their placement for the next two years. The lower the class rank, the poorer the academic performance, and such classes were subject to stricter requirements; that was simply how Shengyu High School operated.
"Yun Xuan, Yun Xue, Lin Qingyu, Horie Kanon, Lin Yao, Istia, Wen Xuan'er, Qin Yue, Chiba Seisetsu, Nangong Xiaomeng, Liu Mengyan, Liu Mengxuan... The above are members of Class 2-1," Qin Yun announced from the stage.
Yun Xuan stood below, completely bewildered. Every girl he knew was in the same class? At this rate... what was there left to strategize? After announcing the list, Qin Yun deliberately glanced at Yun Xuan, a subtle, indescribable smile playing on her lips. Yun Xuan felt a strong urge to pin Qin Yun to the side of the stage and give her a stern lecture so she would learn the consequences of being a meddlesome busybody.
"Is this the target?" Istia looked at Yun Xuan. Even dressed in a skirt, she could not hide her allure; the boys nearby were turning red just looking at her.
Yun Xuan felt Istia's gaze and glanced at her, remaining unaffected, though he did think she seemed a bit indecent. If Istia knew what Yun Xuan was thinking, she would likely laugh out loud. If her clan were "decent" people, they would have gone extinct long ago.
With the class assignments finished, the second-year students were free to do as they pleased. Their textbooks had already been placed on their desks, so they didn't even need to go to their classrooms. All the second-years began decorating the venue in preparation for the orientation.
The first-year students had simple tasks: select a few people to perform, and the rest just needed to wear their uniforms and attend the following day. As for the third-years, they were under heavy academic pressure and were not required to help; they only needed to watch the performances.
They decorated until two in the afternoon, at which point Yun Xuan and the others left the school. The official orientation ceremony would begin tomorrow. Qin Yun hadn't prepared anything for Yun Xuan; he had to write his own speech, but he was too lazy to do so, so he hadn't touched a pen.
Once they arrived home, "The weather is just too hot," Yun Xuan said, sitting on the sofa, drinking a cold beverage while the air conditioner ran.
"Brother, be careful, or you'll catch a cold," Yun Xue reminded him.
"It's fine. My health is excellent. Catching a cold or anything like that is out of the question," Yun Xuan said, lying back on the sofa.
Qin Yue sat beside Yun Xuan. She hadn't spoken to Qin Yun at all today. Qin Zhihua had left for college, and Yun Xuan breathed a sigh of relief. Sisters and the like were blessings he had no luck in handling.
"Brother, it seems new neighbors moved in across the street today. Should we go and say hello?" Yun Xue asked, looking out the window.
"I'm too lazy to go. You and Qin Yue can go together," Yun Xuan waved a hand. On a day this hot, he only wanted to stay in a cool place.
"Alright then, I'll go with Qin Yue in a little while," Yun Xue smiled, looking at the girls in front of the house across the street; they looked very cute.
...
Downstairs across the street, six girls looked at the house in front of them. It was also a two-story building with a yard, though slightly smaller.
"The money we earned is almost gone now, but luckily, we've secured our identities," Asuna III said, looking at the three thousand yuan remaining in her wallet.
"I've submitted my entry to the art competition. As long as I win first place, I'll get one hundred thousand," the girl with long, silver-white hair said softly.
"For now, Asuna will continue working part-time. Akame will protect Sagiri, Mikasa will stay at home, and Misaka will search for useful information to see if there is any presence of supernatural energy," said Shiro, the youngest among them.
No one had any objections; Shiro, the most intelligent of them all, was the group's backbone.
