Chapter 126: I'm Coming to Sleep Now
Yun Xuan answered the call, unsure of what to say.
“Yun Xuan, are you free tonight?” came the soft voice of Liu Mengyan over the phone.
“Is there something you need?” Yun Xuan asked, harboring a bad feeling toward Liu Mengyan.
“I’d like to invite you to dinner tonight at the top floor of the Fangyu Hotel,” Liu Mengyan said gently.
“When?” Yun Xuan inquired, wanting to clarify things with her.
“At eight o’clock,” Liu Mengyan replied happily.
“Alright, I’ll come by tonight. I have something to attend to now, so I’ll hang up first,” Yun Xuan glanced at the time—two hours to go.
Before Liu Mengyan could respond, Yun Xuan ended the call.
Sitting on the sofa, he pondered for a moment and then dialed another number.
“What do I have to do to make Liu Mengyan give up on me?” Yun Xuan asked without waiting for a reply.
“Eh?” The person on the other end was momentarily stunned.
...
Nightfall, 7:30 p.m.
Outside the Fangyu Hotel.
Yun Xuan stared up at the towering hotel, uncertain if the plan would work, hoping it would make Liu Mengyan dislike him.
Liu Mengxuan had mentioned that Liu Mengyan was very fond of Yun Xuan and had been pursuing him persistently. Faced with such a girl, Yun Xuan found himself unable to take any drastic action.
He had his principles. While he could be indifferent about winning over other girls, he couldn’t be indifferent toward Liu Mengyan.
Her affection was for his predecessor—the previous person he had been—someone she had liked purely and innocently since childhood. Yun Xuan didn’t want Liu Mengyan to be hurt in the end.
Or rather, Yun Xuan was troubled by the fact that Liu Mengyan didn’t like him but his former self, so he couldn’t develop any fondness for her.
“I wonder how Liu Mengyan feels,” Yun Xuan mused as he took the elevator to the top floor. The staff, having seen him beforehand, warmly guided him.
...
Top floor of the Fangyu Hotel.
Liu Mengyan sat by the window, dressed in a pristine white dress.
“Sorry, I’m late,” Yun Xuan said, taking a deep breath. Even someone as formidable as him felt a little nervous around girls.
“That’s alright,” Liu Mengyan replied, snapping back to reality with a gentle smile.
The waiter began bringing dishes, and the two started eating without speaking.
“Yun Xuan, do you dislike me very much?” Liu Mengyan asked softly.
“Yes,” Yun Xuan nodded.
“I used to treat you that way because I wanted to protect you. Since high school, I have been betrothed to someone. Even though neither of us wanted this, it’s a family alliance, and there’s no room for rebellion,” Liu Mengyan spoke slowly.
“So you’re using me as a shield now?” Yun Xuan said coldly.
“No. I just think now you’re capable of being with me, so I brought him here,” Liu Mengyan said, looking toward the approaching figure.
“Hello, I’m Lin Yao from Shangjing Academy. I’ll be transferring here after the semester starts, also in the 11th grade,” said a remarkably handsome young man, extending his hand.
“Yun Xuan, no need to shake hands. I don’t like being schemed against,” Yun Xuan said, wiping his mouth and looking at the two.
“The semester starts in a few days. I must obey my family’s orders and live with him to adapt to the new life,” Liu Mengyan said calmly.
“Mengyan’s reason for coming to you is because you’re from the Yun family. Even if you’ve been abandoned, you’re still a member of the Yun family. Coupled with your connection to the Dongfang family, you’re full of potential. If Mengyan marries you, that’s far better than my choice. The Liu family would consider giving up,” Lin Yao said unfazed by Yun Xuan’s attitude.
“You don’t like her?” Yun Xuan looked at Lin Yao seriously.
“I like someone else. Don’t think poorly of me just because I’m from a noble family. I’m a pure-hearted person,” Lin Yao smiled wryly.
“Liu Mengyan, would you marry me?” Yun Xuan asked after a moment of silence.
“Mm,” Liu Mengyan nodded without hesitation.
“Even if I have other women outside, would you still marry me?” Yun Xuan asked again.
“Yes,” Liu Mengyan answered calmly, showing no surprise.
“If I marry you, would you allow me to bring other women home?” Yun Xuan pressed on with a shockingly blunt question.
Lin Yao opened his mouth in disbelief—would Liu Mengyan really agree to such terms?
“I can sleep elsewhere and leave the room to you,” Liu Mengyan replied with the same composure.
“...” Lin Yao and Yun Xuan were both speechless.
Yun Xuan had prepared several lines but couldn’t get a word out. If Liu Mengyan could accept this, what was there left to say?
“Alright, I agree to help you break off the engagement, but I won’t get engaged to you. I like someone else—several girls, actually,” Yun Xuan stood up.
“I understand,” Liu Mengyan lowered her head.
Yun Xuan glanced once more at Liu Mengyan before leaving the top floor.
“Mengyan... you...” Lin Yao looked at Liu Mengyan, tears streaming down his face. Just moments ago, she had been so calm, but now she was crying.
...
Yun Xuan descended the stairs and, upon exiting, saw Liu Mengxuan—the informant.
“So? Did you manage to get her to agree to the engagement?” Liu Mengxuan asked with interest.
“Is this how you set me up?” Yun Xuan rolled his eyes at her.
Liu Mengxuan had told Yun Xuan that to make Liu Mengyan give up on him, he needed to act like a womanizer. But in the end... Liu Mengyan accepted it with a serene expression.
“Sis is fragile and truly cares about you. If you go up now and say some vows of eternal love—anything that sounds sweet—you can have the beauty in your arms tonight,” Liu Mengxuan said with a smile.
“I have no interest in playing with feelings,” Yun Xuan said as he got into his car.
“What about those who like you? Can you watch them fall into the arms of others?” Liu Mengxuan pressed.
“No,” Yun Xuan glanced at Liu Mengxuan’s smiling face and drove off.
“Yun Xuan, you really are an interesting person,” Liu Mengxuan smiled, looking up at the top floor.
...
Yun Xuan drove home. Yun Xue and Yun Xun’er had already returned. After greeting them, Yun Xuan went straight to his room.
He poured a glass of water and sat before his computer, drinking it slowly. This aimless, directionless life was not to his liking.
The Liu Mengyan matter was not complicated — just send the Yun Zhongxian No.1 device to take care of it.
“Perhaps I’ve become too sentimental? I want to collect so many beauties but don’t take action,” Yun Xuan muttered.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
There was a knock at the door.
“Sister Xun’er, I...” Yun Xuan opened the door, thinking it was Yun Xun’er, but—
Qin Yue, dressed in pajamas, stood at the doorway.
“Good evening, I’m here to sleep,” Qin Yue said as she walked into the room.
“Oh,” Yun Xuan instinctively stepped back.
“Go to bed early,” Qin Yue said, slipping under Yun Xuan’s blanket.
“Eh? Eh?” Yun Xuan stared at Qin Yue, his face a picture of bewildered innocence.
