Chapter 105: A Million Exchange Points and No Save File
On the abandoned building, Yun Xuan watched the zombies below. With a swift dive, the invisibility of his power armor activated.
He flew through the horde of zombies, tossing something from his hand—small MP3 players.
With a turn, Yun Xuan landed beside Huihui.
The MP3s were switched on as they were thrown, simultaneously playing the national anthem.
The resonant melody drew the attention of everyone in Wushan City, filling their hearts with warmth.
“Darkness cloaked in light, blazing flames clad in the night’s garb, in the name of the Red Demon Clan, unleash the primal destruction! In the land of the end-time kingdom, summon the source of power—before me, manifest! Explosion!” Huihui’s chant was as theatrically intense as ever.
As her voice faded, a magic circle formed on the ground, spreading over the surrounding zombies that had been drawn in.
Boom! A tremendous explosion erupted, the scorching flames in the sky made the people of Wushan City widen their eyes in awe.
“This… how is this possible!” Chen Dongcheng gasped, staring at the scorched earth.
On the burned ground, countless zombies were reduced to ashes, with even more afflicted by the blast.
“Charge! Now’s the time to reclaim our territory!” someone shouted, and the long-held-back soldiers surged through the city gate.
Fewer than a few thousand zombies remained; soldiers swiftly encircled and eliminated them. Within half an hour, defenses were erected and the city walls repaired.
Masked soldiers dealt with the zombie corpses, smiles blooming on their faces. The national anthem stirred a warmth deep within their hearts.
“This… this is for the better,” Chen Dongcheng relaxed, wiping away tears.
…
Yun Xuan and Huihui returned to Research Institute No. 258. After a moment’s thought, Yun Xuan decided to use Institute No. 258 as the trade location.
A mobile research facility equipped with ten electromagnetic cannons and various thermal weapons—no fool would dare attack it. Even with thousands of soldiers, a human wave tactic couldn’t defeat Institute No. 258. Dream on.
Not to mention, their opponents had no idea how many people were inside Institute No. 258. The weapons here were only vulnerable to nuclear strikes.
But nuclear weapons had been completely dismantled by the year 2290, as humanity had developed more powerful, environmentally friendly weapons: the Lightborne.
The Lightborne moved at a speed a hundred times that of sound, with a global strike radius. When the meteorite came from outer space, it had already damaged the Lightborne.
Now, the strongest weapons were laser arms and electromagnetic cannons, both ineffective against super-memory metals.
So, what was there to worry about? Yun Xuan planned to complete the trade and take Institute No. 258 away.
“Activate it,” Yun Xuan ordered.
The entire Institute No. 258 trembled and then officially set sail.
The towering robot, over a hundred meters tall, headed toward the Wushan City survivor enclave.
Wherever the robot passed, zombies were crushed beneath its feet. In less than ten minutes, it arrived at the survivor gathering.
“Is that… a robot?!” Chen Dongcheng, busy directing construction, was dumbfounded as he saw Institute No. 258 approaching.
The robot stopped 100 meters from the survivor enclave. A window slid open, and Yun Xuan, clad in power armor, flew out and landed before Chen Dongcheng.
“We’ve brought the canned food, plus 10,000 gold coins—the total is 4.01 million gold coins. This is the sample,” Yun Xuan said, opening a briefcase to show Chen Dongcheng.
“Is this the legendary research institute?” Chen Dongcheng’s eyes locked onto Institute No. 258.
“You don’t need to know about that,” Yun Xuan replied coldly.
“You have the ability to rescue us, even eliminate the crisis in Wushan City, to save the world! Why? Why don’t you do it?” Chen Dongcheng asked passionately, his eyes filled with pain.
“We are apocalypse merchants, not saviors. If the trade is to be canceled, I’ll be leaving now,” Yun Xuan said coolly.
“The trade continues…” Chen Dongcheng suddenly understood, his face falling as he gazed at Institute No. 258. If he had this, he could lead the remaining humans to true peace.
What he did not understand was that after the world changed, so did people’s hearts.
What followed went smoothly. The 4.01 million gold coins were transferred in batches through the robot’s left foot, while canned food came out through a passage in the right foot, box after box.
The entire process took only an hour. Neither the canned goods nor the gold had diminished.
“Pleasure doing business with you. Old Chen, I respect your wholehearted dedication to Wushan City, but now this city is plagued from within. If the scoundrels aren’t dealt with, it will collapse from the inside sooner or later,” Yun Xuan said softly, then flew back inside the robot.
The robot moved, then vanished invisibly, leaving only a shimmering distortion in the air.
Chen Dongcheng stared blankly at where the robot had been, glanced back at the survivor enclave, gritted his teeth, and summoned his men.
“From now on, eradicate all wrongdoers. Every household that helps repair the city wall for a day will receive a bowl of canned soup,” Chen Dongcheng commanded.
“Yes, sir!” the soldiers saluted.
…
In the following two days, Yun Xuan sold the remaining 190,000 cans in Qingyue City and Luoyue City, earning 660,000 exchange points. Combined with the 400,000 exchange points from the Wushan City trade and points gained from killing zombies and villains along the way, the total reached 1.12 million!
Despite the massive haul, Yun Xuan remained level-headed—this was only his 50th crossing. He sealed Research Institute No. 1215.
On the apocalypse forum, a bounty of 500,000 gold coins was placed on the apocalypse merchant’s robot.
The capital city also dispatched personnel, having discovered Institute No. 258 and intending to retrieve it.
Of course, Yun Xuan would never hand it over. He flew to the coastal area, activating the invisibility of Institute No. 258 so outsiders could not see it.
On the beach.
“It’s time to go back,” Yun Xuan said, gazing at the endless ocean. Huihui lay comfortably in the inflatable pool on the sand, wearing a pure white swimsuit, her face relaxed.
The beach was quiet, distant from the city, and the natural lake here barred large fish from entering.
Still, Yun Xuan could not enter the water. The crabs in the lake had mutated; a gentle pinch would be unbearable.
“Huihui, let’s go,” Yun Xuan stood up.
“Mmm, this pool is amazing. I want to swim here inside the robot all the time,” Huihui said, eyes closed, lounging in the pool.
“No problem,” Yun Xuan smiled.
Huihui got up as Yun Xuan packed away the inflatable pool. She then entered Institute No. 258.
With a wave of his hand, the entire robot vanished, occupying one slot in his spatial backpack.
“Return, no save,” Yun Xuan said, pressing the button to cross.
Saving was akin to freezing the world—a fact he had only recently learned—so he immediately deleted the fantasy world’s save.
A flash of light, and Yun Xuan disappeared.
