Chapter 9: That Mother and Child Again
Chapter 9: That Mother and Son Again
Lin Zhou spoke calmly, “Don’t say that in front of your father. Stay away from those two siblings, Lu Yang and his sister.”
They ran out at night and only came back past midnight—who knows what mischief they were up to!
Lu Yi stared coldly at the third floor. “Understood.”
...
The next day.
Gu Mang and Gu Si went downstairs to eat.
Their moods hadn’t improved.
Worsened further by the Lu family servant calling them to breakfast early in the morning, Gu Mang’s face darkened.
Her eyes were icy cold, with a sinister red glint.
Lu Yang glanced sideways as someone sat opposite him. He casually looked up, then suddenly froze.
The girl lowered her head, her long, thick lashes hiding her eyes.
Her complexion was a little pale, but it didn’t detract from her stunning beauty.
Many students at Mingcheng High were good-looking, some even child stars who gained fame early in the art class.
But none were as beautiful as this girl.
Even in such plain, simple clothes, she was captivating.
Lu Yi let out a barely audible chuckle.
Lu Shangjin looked at the cold aura radiating from Gu Mang and asked worriedly, “Didn’t sleep well last night?”
“Mm,” she replied softly, her voice low and hoarse as she controlled her emotions, tearing open sugar packets one by one to add to her milk.
Watching her do so made Lu Shangjin’s teeth ache. She finally paused and leisurely picked up a spoon to stir.
After sipping the warm milk, her expression softened slightly.
Lu Shangjin couldn’t help but say, “Eat less, or your teeth will suffer.”
Gu Mang lifted her slightly reddened eyes.
Those eyes were bright, deep black, and chillingly mischievous.
Lu Shangjin was speechless.
Gu Si quickly offered a piece of very sweet pastry to his sister to comfort her.
She loved sweets, especially the sickeningly sweet kind.
He suspected his sister must have been a fairy in her past life.
Clearing his throat, Lu Shangjin straightened his posture, firmly asserting his authority. “By the way, Gu Mang, Gu Si’s affairs have been settled. Someone will come tonight.”
Hearing this, Gu Mang raised an eyebrow and gave a faint, casual smile—the first of the morning. “Alright, thanks to Uncle Lu.”
Lin Zhou glanced at the few people talking subtly at the table and casually asked, “What’s going on with Gu Si?”
Lu Shangjin answered succinctly, “We found him a school. He’s still young; his studies can’t be neglected.”
Lin Zhou smiled and, in the manner of an elder, patted Gu Si’s head. “Don’t let Uncle Lu down. Study hard once you start school.”
Gu Si didn’t have a good impression of Lin Zhou. When she touched him, a flash of disgust crossed his eyes. He forced a smile that didn’t reach his face.
...
At the traffic light.
Gu Si fiddled with his curly hair, cursing, “How dare they touch my head! They really don’t know their place!”
The signal turned green. Gu Mang pressed down the brim of her hat to shield her eyes from the sun and casually strolled across the crosswalk.
Gu Si looked down at his shirt, which had become shorter.
He’d grown taller again.
He said, “Sis, buy me some clothes, okay? From that store up ahead.”
A clearance sale at a children’s clothing shop.
Twenty yuan each, fifty for three.
Gu Mang raised an eyebrow and gave a hum of agreement, leading him inside to look.
...
Qin Fang sat in the front passenger seat, watching Gu Mang and Gu Si enter such a store while waiting at the red light, his expression complicated.
“Cheng Ge, it’s that mother and son again.”
In the back seat, Lu Chengzhou opened his eyes and looked over.
The girl wore a black hoodie; under the sunlight, her neck was slender and pale.
Her face was dangerously beautiful.
