Chapter 22: Gu Mang’s Ruthlessness
Chapter 22: Gu Mang’s Ruthlessness
Meng Jinyang frowned immediately upon hearing this, asking nervously, "Are you really fighting people to make money? Did you get hurt? Take off your shirt and let me check."
She stood up, ready to unbutton Gu Mang’s shirt.
Gu Mang caught her hand, looked at her anxious expression, and gave a deep laugh, her beautiful eyes harboring a hint of mischief.
She said in a low voice, "I’ve been learning some computer skills. I make small pieces of software for people, and it earns me some money."
Meng Jinyang stared intently into her clear, bright eyes. Satisfied that she wasn’t lying, she let out a sigh of relief. "You scared me to death."
Gu Mang draped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her back down to sit, acting with a roguish, brotherly air. "Don’t worry, I don’t fight people. I just beat them up."
Meng Jinyang: "..."
Meng Jinyang had witnessed Gu Mang’s ruthlessness since she was five years old.
One second she would be smiling at you, and the next, she would be lunging at your head with a brick, oblivious to the danger.
Indeed, no one could ever really hurt her.
As long as she wasn’t injured, it was fine. As for others, Gu Mang was never one to stir up trouble unless someone provoked her first. If they got beaten, they deserved it.
Meng Jinyang nibbled on a dried strawberry to calm her nerves and returned to the main topic. "Gu Mang, I really am much better now. I don’t need to stay here anymore."
Gu Mang surveyed the high-end surroundings of the nursing home. "It’s quite nice here, why not? It’s not that expensive."
Meng Jinyang said softly, "But I want to earn money with you. I must have cost you so much money living here all these years."
"It’s not much," Gu Mang said dismissively.
Her phone suddenly rang. She pulled it out; it was a message from Lin Shuang.
[Little Gu, be careful lately. All of Lu Chengzhou’s forces are looking for you.]
Meng Jinyang pursed her lips, her expression stubborn. "Gu Mang, you’ve hired so many tutors to teach me. I could actually go find a part-time job; I could earn quite a bit a day."
She didn’t want to be a burden to her anymore. She was capable of taking care of herself now.
Gu Mang raised her clear, cold eyes to look at her. "You really want to make money?"
Meng Jinyang nodded solemnly. "Yes."
Gu Mang bit into a piece of dried mango, chewing slowly. "How about this: I’ll find you a school so you can take this year’s college entrance exam. Get into a good university, and you’ll earn more after you graduate."
A spark of light flashed in Meng Jinyang’s eyes, but then she wilted again. "School is very expensive."
That was no small expense.
"Don't worry about the tuition; I have the money." Gu Mang replied to Lin Shuang’s message in a leisurely manner, adding offhandedly, "Pay me back when you graduate from college and start earning money."
Meng Jinyang was still hesitant. "And what about you?"
"Me? I’ll rent a place near your school."
Meng Jinyang bit her lip and thought for a moment. "Gu Mang, why don’t we go to school together? Let’s take the college entrance exam together."
Gu Mang frowned slightly.
She had finished the high school curriculum by the time she was six.
After finally getting expelled from school, now she was supposed to go back, wake up early every day, listen to lectures, and take tests?
And be under the control of the school?
What a nuisance.
Thinking Gu Mang hated studying, Meng Jinyang said proactively, "If you’re afraid of studying, I can tutor you."
Gu Mang gave her a look—a very deep one.
It was inscrutable.
Meng Jinyang couldn’t read it. Fearing she wouldn’t agree, she squeezed her fingertips tightly, lowered her eyes, and said softly, "Gu Mang, I owe you way too much. I don’t want you to keep sacrificing yourself for me."
