Chapter 41: The Wager

Gu Mang walked into the office with her hands in her pockets.

There was little expression on her face, and her eyes were shrouded in a chilly frost.

Knowing that Gu Mang had a bad temper just like Chu Yao, Meng Jinyang was afraid something might happen, so she had followed her in.

Turning around and seeing her, Lu Yang spoke with righteous indignation, "Gu Mang, she is the one spreading rumors about you outside. I'm making her apologize to you!"

"Didn't she score a zero? Wasn't she expelled from her previous school?" Luo Songhua said with a sneer, then looked at Xi Yan, who had hurried into the room.

"Teacher Xi, you really should keep a tight leash on the students in your class. It's one thing to have poor grades, but why are they all so unruly? It's simply a disgrace! Does she think Mingcheng High School is some backwater ditch? Instead of wasting time on this, they'd be better off doing a few more math problems."

Xi Yan pressed her lips together and forced a smile. "Teacher Luo is right."

Lu Yang frowned. "Teacher Xi, what do you mean by that? Have you forgotten how this old hag bullied you in this office?! Today, I'll teach her a lesson for you as well!"

The phrase "old hag" struck a raw nerve with Luo Songhua, and her face instantly turned ashen. "Teacher Xi! Is this the kind of student you produce?! Showing such utter disrespect to a teacher—are they hoping to get expelled from school all over again?"

"Lu Yang!" Xi Yan used a stern tone for the very first time. "You and Gu Mang, go outside first."

Lu Yang glared at Luo Songhua, holding back his breath with a terribly dark expression.

Seeing this scene, Luo Songhua let out a smug laugh. "You'd better listen to your Teacher Xi and get out of here!"

"Damn it! You old witch!" Lu Yang charged forward recklessly, but his arm was caught by Gu Mang. He turned his head to look at her expressionless face.

Gu Mang glanced at Luo Songhua, who was still shaken by Lu Yang's outburst, and said indifferently, "Go outside first."

Lu Yang knitted his brows tightly, deeply aggrieved. "You have no idea what terrible things they are saying about you outside."

"Go outside," Gu Mang repeated, her clear, pitch-black eyes fixing on him with a chilling, fierce gaze full of absolute deterrence.

Lu Yang gritted his teeth. "Fine. For your sake, I'll let her off today. If she dares to talk nonsense again, I won't let her off!"

Without a word, Gu Mang turned and walked toward the door.

Just as she reached the threshold—

"Hmph, a delinquent is a delinquent. Not only are their grades terrible, but their personal character and morals are completely bankrupt. Dragging down the school's college admission rate is one thing, yet they don't even know how to keep a low profile and act all arrogant," Luo Songhua's sharp, vicious voice rang out.

Gu Mang stopped. With her hands in her pockets, she stood in a slouching posture, a low-pressure aura enveloping her entire body as she stared straight ahead.

Xi Yan gripped her lesson plans tightly and said evenly, "Teacher Luo, studying is studying; grades do not define personal character and morals. Being unwilling to study is not the same as naturally struggling with it. I believe my students are all very smart, and their character and morals are exemplary. As a teacher, I advise you to watch your words."

Luo Songhua let out a scoff. "Teacher Xi, are you trying to say that your students are simply unwilling to study, and that if they were willing, every single one of them would be a genius?"

Xi Yan pressed her lips together and remained silent.

"How about this, let's make a wager," Luo Songhua said, crossing her legs and adopting a condescending posture. "The student at the very bottom of Class One scored 643 points on the last weekly exam. In this weekend's monthly exam, if even a single student from your class can surpass that score, I will apologize to Gu Mang and your entire class, and admit that my previous views were wrong."
