Chapter 95: Encountering a Deal at Night
The three of them wandered around the nearby night market before heading back. Liu Zixuan went straight to her dormitory, while Zhong Yuhan and Ye Fei strolled together through the campus. However, since they kept attracting the attention of passersby, Ye Fei led Zhong Yuhan to a more secluded and less frequented area.
Unexpectedly, Ye Fei caught a glimpse of Xie Dong's figure darting ahead. “There’s definitely something going on,” he thought, frowning in contemplation. This spot was rather isolated, and leaving Zhong Yuhan here alone didn’t seem right. Yet if he took her back first, he might miss something important—perhaps Xie Dong would already be gone by the time he returned, or whatever business he had would be finished.
Ye Fei gazed at Zhong Yuhan, who looked back at him. Their eyes met for more than three seconds, causing a faint blush to rise on Zhong Yuhan’s cheeks.
“Yuhan, I need to take care of something. No matter what happens, you mustn’t make a sound or move suddenly, all right?” Ye Fei said softly.
She nodded, pressing her lips together, curiosity flickering in her eyes.
Ye Fei wrapped his arm around her waist, half-lifting her as he hurried away, following Xie Dong’s trail into a more deserted part of the campus, a place students rarely visited—especially at this hour.
Xie Dong stood with a few shadowy figures up ahead, unaware of Ye Fei and Zhong Yuhan’s presence. Ye Fei observed them one by one: “Xie Dong, Security Officer Qiang, and a Black man.”
“Xie Dong represents the Ming Gang, Qiang stands for the security company, and this Black man—does he represent Rong Gui or another force?” Ye Fei mused, while Zhong Yuhan looked at him in astonishment—was Ye Fei watching these men?
Ye Fei quietly took out his phone and began recording, though the footage was blurry in the darkness; all he could really make out of the Black man were two eyes and a flash of white teeth.
Xie Dong produced a box—the very same one he’d unearthed the other day. Opening it revealed packets of white powder. The Black man slit one open, dabbed a bit with his finger, tasted it, and nodded in satisfaction.
Ye Fei understood at once—these must be drugs. If only he could get a clear shot, it would serve as solid evidence. But the conditions were against him; realizing he wouldn’t get anything more useful, he put the phone away, hoping at least to overhear more of their conversation. But then, unexpectedly—
“Meow—”
A stray cat suddenly appeared, leaping at Zhong Yuhan’s feet. The sudden intrusion startled not only Xie Dong and his companions, but also Zhong Yuhan. She remembered Ye Fei’s warning and managed not to cry out, but her body tensed involuntarily, and she stepped on a branch with a crack.
“Who’s there?” Xie Dong and the others whirled around.
“Damn!” Ye Fei cursed inwardly. He quickly scooped Zhong Yuhan up and bolted away, darting through the darkness and using every bit of cover he could find.
“We’ve been discovered—catch them!” Xie Dong shouted, turning to give chase with the Black man.
Qiang, the burly security officer, blocked their way and said in a low voice, “This isn’t the place for you. I’ll handle it. Get out of Yingde School now. We’ll be in touch next time.”
The three exchanged glances. Xie Dong and the Black man nodded, then slipped away by another route.
Qiang took out his walkie-talkie, his tone grim. “Surround the campus. Watch for anyone suspicious.”
With that, he gave chase himself.
Two security guards took up posts at the campus gate while the others fanned out through the grounds, scattering couples who had been meeting in secret.
“Brother Qiang, we haven’t found any suspicious students,” one guard reported as Qiang approached, his face dark.
“They’ve probably already run off. Here’s what we’ll do—check the dormitories and ask if anyone saw someone rushing back just now. Find out if any students are acting strangely,” Qiang ordered.
By this time, Ye Fei had already brought Zhong Yuhan to his private dormitory.
“Ye Fei, they’re checking the dorms,” Zhong Yuhan said, heart pounding.
Ye Fei stood by the window, watching the security guards search below. He said quietly, “Yuhan, you can’t go back tonight. Otherwise, they’ll become suspicious.”
She nodded obediently.
“Stay here tonight then,” Ye Fei said. As he spoke, he noticed her cheeks flush bright red.
When Qiang reached Zhong Yuhan’s dormitory, Liu Zixuan came out in confusion, eyeing the school security. “What are you doing here?”
“Routine dorm inspection. Did you see anyone rush back just now?” Qiang asked.
“No… What’s going on?” Liu Zixuan pressed.
“Nothing. We suspect there might have been a thief on campus. Just a precaution,” Qiang replied.
Without any suspicion, Liu Zixuan blurted, “A thief? Could my roommate be in danger? She hasn’t come back yet.”
“Hasn’t come back?” Qiang’s eyes narrowed. He wasn’t about to overlook any clue.
“Call her, quickly,” Qiang instructed.
Liu Zixuan dialed Zhong Yuhan’s number, but the phone was off. In truth, Zhong Yuhan had powered off her phone to avoid disturbing Ye Fei.
“It’s off,” Liu Zixuan said nervously.
“What was your roommate doing earlier?” Qiang pressed.
“She left with Ye Fei. I don’t know where they went,” Liu Zixuan replied.
Ye Fei—Qiang’s eyes narrowed again. “All right, we’ll go look for your roommate. It’s nothing serious, don’t worry,” he said before leaving.
“Where does Ye Fei live?” Qiang asked another guard.
“He has a private dorm, over there. Brother Qiang, do you think it’s Ye Fei and Zhong Yuhan?” the guard asked.
Qiang pondered. “We’re not sure yet. But Ye Fei is very capable, and it’s suspicious that Zhong Yuhan hasn’t come back this late, with her phone off. We need to find out why their phones are off and where they’ve been tonight.”
“But Brother Hua told us not to mess with Ye Fei,” another guard reminded him.
“It can’t be helped now. I’ll explain to Brother Hua,” Qiang replied grimly.
From the window, Ye Fei and Zhong Yuhan saw Qiang and his men making their way toward the dorm.
“They’re coming, Ye Fei. What should we do?” Zhong Yuhan asked, her nerves taut.
Ye Fei considered for a moment. “Yuhan, I have an idea, but it might be a bit humiliating. I don’t know if you’re willing.”
“What is it?” she asked instinctively.
He explained his plan briefly. Her face turned crimson, but she nodded.
Thump, thump, thump—
A heavy knocking echoed at the door as Qiang and his men shouted, “Open up!”
“No time,” Ye Fei said, gripping Zhong Yuhan’s collar and pulling her clothes off in one swift motion, exposing her pale skin. He ran his hand through her hair to muss it up, then pulled her underwear and skirt off, tossing them aside, and stripped his own clothes down to just his briefs.
He pulled Zhong Yuhan onto the bed, tugged the covers up over her, and, with his own arousal visible, completed the scene of interrupted intimacy.
Zhong Yuhan’s entire body was flushed; she didn’t need to act at all.
Only then did Ye Fei open the door, his expression dark and stormy. “What is it?”
Qiang and his men froze, stunned by the scene. Seeing Ye Fei’s obvious state, they had no doubts.
Glancing uneasily at Ye Fei’s grim face, Qiang managed to say, “Uh, Zhong Yuhan’s roommate said her phone was off and she was worried. We heard she might be here, so we came to check. Sorry for disturbing you.”
With that, Qiang and his group beat a hasty, embarrassed retreat.
