Lin Mo could not be saved.
With a sudden splash, their inflatable boat finally capsized. Lin Wan was battered by the surging water, struggling weakly. Not far away, Lin Mo was swimming calmly. Her heart was filled with hatred; she had only intended to orchestrate a staged fall into the water today, not to actually fall in—especially not in such a terrifying scenario!
"Help... Help me!"
Someone swam toward Lin Wan. Looking closely, Lin Wan saw that it was Mu Bai. But before Mu Bai could swim over, he seemed to lose all his strength and was swept away by a fierce wave.
"Brother Mu Bai..." This time, Lin Wan was truly crying. She did not want anyone who loved her to die right before her eyes.
Lin Yunhe was swimming in the water, instinctively heading toward Lin Wan. Yet for some reason, his physical condition felt exceptionally wrong today. His entire body felt abnormal, and the strength within him was draining at a frantic pace. Gradually, a heavy fatigue set in.
*Damn it.* Lin Yunhe cursed inwardly as his body began to sink beneath the surface of the water.
...
The entire resort was enveloped by the thunder and rain, looking utterly terrifying.
Inside the resort, Qin Lian was losing her mind. "Why did it suddenly start raining like this? Why would it suddenly rain? The weather forecast clearly said there wouldn't be any rain!"
"Hurry up and send people to the reservoir! My son and daughter are still over there!" Qin Lian's legs turned to jelly, and clad in her pajamas, she wailed loudly in the lobby. If they hadn't left in time just moments ago, they would likely be in grave danger now.
Lin Tiancheng supported Qin Lian, his own back drenched in a cold sweat. "Yes, get people over there to rescue them immediately! What are you all standing around for?"
At the front desk stood a fragile, timid young girl. "B-but the phone lines aren't going through... The telephone wires might be damaged from that massive thunder earlier..."
"We have to get the phone repaired first before we can make any outside calls..." The young girl was so frightened she was on the verge of tears.
Hearing this, Qin Lian clutched her chest, nearly fainting on the spot. "How can this be... With a resort as large as yours..."
"Where are your security guards? Where is the search and rescue team?" Qin Lian's voice was frighteningly weak, her eyes wide with terror.
"I don't know... We can't reach any of them." The entire resort felt isolated from the world, filled with utter despair.
Lin Tiancheng also felt his heart turn to ash. "It'll be fine... Maybe they're safe..."
"We'll go over and check right now..." The receptionist rushed to head out, only to discover that the road leading to the reservoir had collapsed. "We can't get across now... To reach it, we'd have to wade through the water, but it's very deep..."
In an instant, Lin Tiancheng seemed to age several years. He hurriedly pulled out his cell phone and dialed the emergency services. The distress call was answered promptly, and rescue personnel were dispatched as quickly as possible.
The receptionist was at a complete loss, feeling as though something was profoundly wrong with the resort tonight. The night was much too deep and dark.
An hour and a half later, the search and rescue team finally arrived.
Qin Lian looked as though she had seen her savior. "You're finally here! Please, go save my son and daughter, they're in the reservoir..." Her voice was hoarse from crying, barely coherent.
The rescue workers did not dare to delay and immediately rushed over.
Another hour passed. Seven unconscious people were brought back.
Upon seeing her children being carried in, Qin Lian nearly died of fright. "How could this happen... They were perfectly fine earlier..."
The rescue workers hurried to reassure her, "They're fine, they just swallowed a lot of water. Emergency treatment has already been administered."
"That's good, that's good, they're all fine..." Qin Lian checked on them; her precious Wanwan was still breathing. Her five sons all had pale faces, but their chests still showed faint signs of rising and falling. Fortunately, young master Mu from the Mu family was also unharmed; otherwise, if the Mu family held them accountable, the Lin family could never bear the consequences.
"Thank you... You truly are our family's lifesavers." Qin Lian started to cry again. "They're all here, everyone is safe now."
"Are you sure? Didn't you say earlier that there were eight people?"
Lin Tiancheng nodded repeatedly. "There were eight people."
As realization dawned on him, his complexion suddenly turned deathly pale. "Why are there only seven? Where is the eighth person? Hasn't that person been brought over yet?"
"Could it be that there weren't enough stretchers, and someone was left behind?"
The rescue team leader frowned. "When we arrived, there were only these seven people on the shore of the reservoir, and all seven of them showed symptoms of drowning. If you are certain there was an eighth person, it is very likely that person saved these seven and brought them ashore. But as for where that person is now, we probably won't know until the rain stops and we expand the search area."
Lin Tiancheng staggered backward two steps.
"So all eight fell into the water, and all seven of them drowned..."
"Mo Mo saved all seven of them by herself..."
"And she didn't come back up."
"Impossible!" Qin Lian stepped forward, shouting, "She must have run away by herself! With her selfish and self-centered personality, she would never risk her life to save others."
At that moment, the team doctor arrived, followed closely by other rescue workers who came running over hurriedly.
"Captain, we found a camera on the shore. It seems to have recorded everything that happened earlier."
The captain instantly regained his vigor. "Can the camera still be turned on?"
"It's waterlogged, but the memory card should still be readable. We'll probably need to take it back to headquarters to restore the data."
The captain nodded. "You are the family members, correct? We will continue our search operations and also work on recovering the data from this memory card. The earliest we can make the contents public to you will be tomorrow morning."
Time ticked away drop by drop.
Six hours passed. The rain had long since stopped, and the sky had regained its bright clarity.
When the search and rescue team returned empty-handed, everyone sighed. Many of the resort staff and guests murmured in pity.
"I heard one person saved seven."
"It's incredible, and she was just a young girl..."
"The remaining one must be dead. In such heavy rain, she's no deity."
"Such a pity. A family came out to enjoy themselves, and they're going back with one less."
Listening to these words, Qin Lian felt as though her heart was being tightly squeezed. For some reason, tears suddenly streamed down her face, and she squatted on the ground, wailing uncontrollably.
Was Lin Mo really dead? Had she truly and completely vanished from this world?
"The surrounding areas have been searched, and the downstream rivers have all been checked. Currently, only the bottom of the water remains unsearched."
Qin Lian's heart felt completely shattered. When Lin Mo was around, she always treated her like a jinx. Why, now that she was experiencing the agony of losing a daughter, did she feel such piercing grief and pain?
Lin Tiancheng could not bear it either, sighing continuously without uttering a single word.
Lin Hen woke up the earliest. He remembered that when he lost consciousness, he had been grabbed by a small, weak hand. It was Lin Mo. During the last racing event, Lin Mo had slapped him across the face, telling him to look closely at who she was.
This time, Lin Hen saw very clearly. It was Lin Mo.
Ignoring the doctor's objections, he leaped straight out of his hospital bed. "Where is Mo Mo? Where is Mo Mo?"
The doctors looked at each other in dismay.
"The Mo Mo you are referring to hasn't been rescued yet..."
"The chances of survival are already slim to none."
In an instant, Lin Hen felt that he was the greatest bastard in the world, having committed the most unforgivable sin imaginable.
