Weisheng Yan opened his eyes, a faint, clean fragrance lingering at the tip of his nose.

He lowered his gaze, staring intently at the panicked young girl.

She seemed quite flustered; her hair fell in disarray, and her earlobes glowed translucently in the sunset. How could a girl be so delicate and soft?

Outside, the sound of horns blared one after another.

Lin Mo met his gaze. The man’s eyes were deep, his pupils pitch-black. To her, they looked like an endless vortex, hiding depths of icy rivers that she could not fathom.

Her heart skipped a beat.

"I'm sorry..." Lin Mo grew even more nervous, fumbling as she tried to sit up.

Their breaths were close enough to mingle. She was utterly panicked.

Weisheng Yan reached out, pulled her by the waist, and drew her to his side. At this, Lin Mo trembled all over. A moment later, she was sitting steadily in her seat.

Lin Mo: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take advantage of you."

The partition was lowered.

Weisheng Yan frowned, his voice cold. "What’s going on?"

Sun Wu quickly replied, "Oh, Boss, there’s a rear-end collision ahead, traffic is a bit backed up." He glanced over and added, "Oh? This little blanket..."

Lin Mo hurriedly said, "I took it out, um..."

"You actually noticed it? There’s another one for you, too," Sun Wu laughed. "The temperature is a bit low, isn't it? I thought it was quite chilly, too."

"Why aren't you using the little yellow duck one? I bought it on a whim yesterday when I got in the car. You were breaking out in a cold sweat then, and the Boss was worried you were cold."

"Is it a bit too childish?"

Lin Mo pursed her lips. "Ah? This little yellow duck blanket, I thought it was..."

Sun Wu realized she had misunderstood. "That's impossible. You are the first woman to ever sit in this car."

Lin Mo stole a glance at Weisheng Yan. Could he be... misogynistic? It was hard to say.

Lin Mo took the small blanket and placed it on her lap, her mind already wandering.

"By the way, how did you find out about my situation last night?"

Sun Wu replied, "It popped up on the local feed, but you can rest assured—it’s all been deleted."

Lin Mo’s gaze dimmed. "Thank you."

Silence followed. Sun Wu knew she was likely heartbroken and didn't know what to say. Having been beaten like that by her own family, facing such cold-blooded and ruthless kin—it was truly miserable.

The atmosphere turned quiet. Weisheng Yan liked peace; he usually found others too noisy and grew impatient. Yet, listening to Lin Mo, he didn't feel that way at all. In fact, he wished she would say a little more.

"Your parents aren't very good to you."

Lin Mo gave a bitter smile. "Yes. It's not as if all parents love their children."

"It's not that they don't love their daughter; they just don't love me."

Lin Mo kneaded the small blanket and sighed. "Last night, I made a spectacle of myself, didn't I?"

Weisheng Yan looked at her. He was wondering what he could do to make her happier. When she was happy, she spoke more. He liked that.

Weisheng Yan withdrew his gaze. "Jiangshan Garden is not far from A University; it’s convenient for your work."

"You should live there. I’m not often in A City."

"The security at Jiangshan Garden is excellent. They won't be able to bully you again."

Lin Mo wanted to politely decline, but faced with Weisheng Yan’s frigid demeanor, she didn't dare to speak.

"You’re such a good person. Are you always this kind?"

"Are you this good to everyone?"

In the front seat, Sun Wu nearly laughed out loud. "Miss Lin, you haven't seen the last person who threw themselves at the Boss. They were blacklisted so thoroughly it would last until their next life."

"To say he’s 'good to people' is simply impossible."

Lin Mo let out a soft sound of realization, her head nodding slowly.

Weisheng Yan felt that Sun Wu was talking too much. It would only make the young girl wary of him. It seemed his salary was too high, giving him the nerve to be so presumptuous.

Sun Wu met his boss's icy glare and clamped his mouth shut, terrified. *Oh no, does the boss think I have a screw loose?*

As the saying goes, accompanying a ruler is like accompanying a tiger; he had to be cautious!

The driver also felt that Sun Wu had been getting a bit too big for his boots.

The car drove steadily onto Riverside Road. Beside them was the Jiang River, a landmark of A City. The wind blew, creating ripples on the water's surface.

Lin Mo was checking a message on her phone when the car braked sharply.

"Oh!"

Her phone hit her forehead. *It hurts...*

Lin Mo rubbed her forehead, blaming herself for holding the phone too high. "Sss..."

"How are you driving?" Weisheng Yan’s voice was incredibly deep, laced with suppressed anger. He glanced at Lin Mo; the girl's forehead was turning red, and she looked pitiful. "Does it hurt?"

"I'm fine," Lin Mo waved her hand. "It doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt. I just bumped it a little..."

Weisheng Yan clenched his hand, ultimately making no further move.

"Liu Tian."

The driver shivered. "Boss, someone is blocking the car."

"If I hadn't braked, I would have hit them."

"Boss, this..." Sun Wu’s expression was cryptic. "It looks like a company owner. I guess that matter of yours recently caused such a stir that, well, someone is not afraid of death and has come to beg you."

Sun Wu’s tone carried a hint of mockery. Begging the boss? Was he tired of living?

Sure enough, a man in a suit tip-toed toward the window.

The window rolled down. Weisheng Yan looked out with indifference.

This man was actually an acquaintance of Lin Mo’s. He was a business partner of her father’s and had been quite high and mighty before. Now, though he was dressed decently, his appearance revealed nothing but desperation and decay.

"Boss Weisheng, hello. I am the owner of Qiaomu Group. We met at the Chamber of Commerce before..."

"Your Chuangguang has been making aggressive moves lately, and our small group has been caught in the aftermath."

"I beg you to show mercy and not terminate our partnership with Qiaomu... If you break the contract, we will go bankrupt."

As the man spoke, he dropped to his knees. "I beg you! I will be forever grateful for your great kindness!"

Though Lin Mo was puzzled, she didn't dare to look too closely.

"Drive."

The cold voice held not a shred of mercy.

"Boss Weisheng, please!" The man hurriedly grabbed the window frame. "I have elders and children to support; my son is sick in the hospital. I beg you..."

"Please give me a chance, or my whole family will have nowhere else to turn!"

Weisheng Yan suddenly curled his thin lips in a cold, mocking sneer. "It has nothing to do with me."

"Get out of the way!" Sun Wu got out of the car and shoved the man aside without a hint of remorse. His tone was sharp. "Do you think just anyone can talk to our President?"

"If everyone were like you, Chuangguang wouldn't be in business; we might as well just run a charity."

"You people play dirty tricks while partnering with Chuangguang—you deserve what you get today!"

"Don't block the way here, or... you can go ask around on the streets to see what happens to those who offend the boss!"

The man’s face turned deathly pale. If he hadn't been backed into a corner, he would never have dared to seek out this "Living Yama."

The driver didn't wait for Sun Wu and drove off.

Lin Mo looked in the rearview mirror and saw the man kneeling and pleading, but Sun Wu didn't look back once. The two gradually faded from sight.

"This is business."

"If you lose, you lose. No one sympathizes with those who are out of the game."

Weisheng Yan spoke suddenly. "If I were to lose my power, I would face the same fate."

Lin Mo turned back to look at his sharp, stern profile. His face held an impeccable, cold arrogance. Was this what it meant to be strong?

Lin Mo withdrew her gaze. "I know. No matter the industry, the competition is brutal."

"Instead of placing hope in others, it is better to be strong enough yourself."

Weisheng Yan wasn't surprised. When he first saw her, he thought she was a docile yet rebellious girl. Later, he realized that when this girl taught others a lesson, she didn't hesitate at all.

However, such a young girl had still been bullied too severely by her family. Everyone had their vulnerabilities.

"I can be your backing."
