Chapter 1: The True Heiress Is Reborn
Lin Mo was dead.
Before she closed her eyes for the last time, the Lin family went on television, exposing her to a litany of fabricated crimes. Innocent, she bore the brunt of public scorn and died in a car accident at the height of her fame. After her death, she watched as her reputation was shredded, rumors swirling until she was reduced from a celebrated actress to a reviled outcast, cursed by all.
Her brothers in the organization—more than ten of them—held the grandest funeral for her. Then, on the seventh night after her passing, they razed the Lin family to the ground.
Lin Mo wept bitterly; regret flooded her heart. She should never have left her brothers, never have chosen her biological parents. Her five blood brothers treated her as a menace, loathed her to the core. Her parents doted only on their adopted daughter, leaving her—the true daughter—as nothing more than a stepping stone, used and discarded without mercy.
Only her brothers in the organization, madly possessive, dark and terrifying, cherished her to the marrow. The brothers she once fled from, wild and unpredictable, were the ones who loved her most.
If she had a second chance, she would never again harbor hope for the Lin family.
"Beep."
"Beep."
"Beep."
Lin Mo jolted awake as if dragged from drowning. She gasped deeply, struggling to recover from suffocation. The air was thick with the scent of disinfectant, her head throbbing with pain. She glanced anxiously around the room, exhaling deeply. "My head hurts..."
Her past life felt like nothing more than a nightmare. It took her a moment to accept: she had been reborn.
She was back at eighteen. Eight months after being found by her biological parents. Her heart felt heavy, swollen with sorrow, aching with every touch.
"Lin Mo, you're finally awake. Stop pretending to be dead."
Lin Mo looked at the person entering the hospital room, her gaze darkening. "Lin Wan."
In her previous life, Lin Wan had been the root of all her misery, snatching away everything. Her adopted sister, Lin Wan...
"What's wrong? Did your head injury ruin your brain too?" Lin Wan settled beside the bed, sneering. "You went out to be an extra? With your rustic looks, you think you have a shot in showbiz?"
Lin Wan mocked Lin Mo mercilessly. "You’re a failure as the real daughter. You should have stayed in the countryside, and you dare try to compete with me for our brothers’ affection!"
Anger blazed in Lin Mo’s eyes. She slapped Lin Wan across the face.
The sound rang out, sharp and clear.
Lin Wan clutched her cheek, bright red marks blooming across her skin. Shock filled her eyes—timid, submissive Lin Mo had actually struck her?
"Lin Mo, you hit me? Do you want our brothers to teach you a lesson?"
"Stop using the Lin family to threaten me. I don’t care anymore." Lin Mo stared fiercely at Lin Wan, the one who had pushed her into hell, never to recover.
If not for Lin Wan’s repeated schemes and manipulations, Lin Mo would never have been driven to the breaking point with her family.
But now, she would no longer hope to thaw the Lin family’s hearts. With Lin Wan there, they would never care for their true daughter or sister.
"I only want you all to go to hell! I want you to feel the depths of my despair!"
Lin Wan met Lin Mo’s icy gaze and, unexpectedly, felt a chill run down her spine. How could she... How could she fear Lin Mo? Impossible...
Bang!
The hospital door was kicked open.
Eldest brother Lin Yunhe stormed in. Seeing the scene, anger flickered across his gentle face.
"Lin Mo, you dare hit Wanwan?"
"Wanwan came to see you out of kindness, and you repay her like this? You’re truly heartless!"
Lin Wan hurried into his arms, crying pitifully. "Big brother, you’re finally here. I was so scared."
"Mo Mo said she wanted to kill me..."
Lin Yunhe frowned, shielding Lin Wan. "With me here, no one will harm you."
Second brother Lin Hen followed, glaring at Lin Mo with disgust. "You never learn, do you? Bullying Wanwan behind our backs again."
"We’ve shared eighteen years with Wanwan. Don’t think you can challenge us just because you carry Lin blood."
"Driving you out of the Lin family would take no more than a word."
Lin Mo pressed her lips together, looking at her brothers. For reasons she couldn’t name, her eyes grew red.
They guarded Lin Wan, venomous and deceitful, as if she were precious. Yet they saw their real sister as a monster, terrified she might hurt Wanwan.
She wiped away the dampness at her eyes.
It was these brothers who made her leave the organization, leave those who loved her fiercely and unconditionally.
Was it worth it?
Not at all. Not even a little.
The other three brothers arrived soon after.
Lin Juan, dressed in a suit, had come straight from the company. Originally, he hadn’t planned to waste time on Lin Mo’s injury. But upon arrival, he saw her standing by the bed, and Lin Wan’s tear-streaked face, so delicate and beautiful, marred by a glaring handprint.
Lin Juan’s expression turned cold. "Wanwan, was it Lin Mo?"
"You deserve to die!" Fourth brother Lin Jianchen lunged at Lin Mo, eyes bloodshot, grabbing her collar. "How dare you touch Wanwan!"
Lin Qinglang, nearby, seethed with fury. "Fourth brother, just throw her out the window. She’s an eyesore alive!"
Lin Mo swallowed hard. Her head throbbed, the air tinged with blood. Her whole body felt frozen.
Fourth brother’s hatred was palpable, as if he wanted to tear her apart.
The irony was overwhelming.
She smirked. "Yes, I hit her. Do whatever you want."
Lin Jianchen scowled, flinging her away with disgust, as if she’d dirtied his hands. "Get out!"
Lin Mo fell to the floor. When she touched her forehead, blood seeped through her fingers.
She’d been injured on a film set during summer break, working as an extra to earn tuition. The wound, hastily stitched, had torn open again.
The white gauze quickly stained red. The floor was cold and dirty.
She propped herself up, watching her brothers and Lin Wan, lofty and disdainful, scrutinizing her with contempt.
A sourness rose in her nose. She opened her mouth, but not a single word would come.
"Don’t blame Mo Mo," Lin Wan said, feigning concern. "Mo Mo is the real Lin daughter; I’m just the adopted one by mistake."
"You treat Mo Mo so harshly—I feel guilty."
"I’m like a thief, stealing love that was never meant for me. I owe Mo Mo."
She lowered her head. "Even if Mo Mo beats me to death, I have nothing to say. I’m the one who’s wrong."
The five brothers, seeing Lin Wan like this, showed signs of sympathy. They blamed themselves for not protecting her, and were angry Lin Mo had returned.
If not for Lin Mo, how could Wanwan have suffered so much, endured so many grievances?
Lin Mo felt sick to her stomach. "Stop pretending."
"Enough!" Their mother, Qin Lian, entered, voice thunderous with rage. "Lin Mo, you’re beyond hope!"
"How could you become so heartless?"
"Apologize to Wanwan now!"
Lin Mo looked at her mother, the one who had used her most and hurt her most. Her gaze dropped, icy and cold.
"You have no right to lecture me."
