“Dad, it smells so bad! What’s rotting?”
Su Keke covered her nose, her brows furrowed in disgust.
“It must be some kind of animal. You head over there; I’ll come once I finish cutting these water vines.”
Xu Yi glanced around using his x-ray vision but found nothing.
Either the target was beyond 30 meters, exceeding the effective range of his x-ray sight, or something was blocking it.
Hearing Xu Yi’s words, Su Keke grabbed the water vines, held her nose, and ran off.
Xu Yi took off his clothes and wrapped his head, leaving only his eyes exposed. Without wind, wrapping himself this way made the stench bearable.
Once cut and laid flat, the water vines didn’t lose much water.
After about half an hour, Xu Yi had cut all the water vines.
He then carried them in two trips over to Su Keke.
“How is it? Does it still smell here?”
Xu Yi asked, feeling as if he himself reeked.
“No, it’s fine now. Dad, drink some water quickly.”
Xu Yi took off his head covering, took a few deep breaths, then drank water from one of the vines.
After finishing, he pulled out a second snakeskin water pouch.
After a quick rinse, he and Su Keke began filling them.
Using only half the water vines, both snakeskin pouches were filled to capacity.
The second snake was larger, so it held more water.
“These two snakeskin bags probably hold about five liters. Having this much water feels reassuring,” Xu Yi smiled happily as he glanced at the bags in the basket.
“Let’s gather some twigs and cook some eggs.”
With that, they each went off to collect some sticks.
Xu Yi dug a small hole in the ground, placed a bird egg inside, covered it lightly with soil, and lit a fire over it.
“Keke, stay here and watch the fire. Dad’s going to check out what animal is rotting nearby—see if there’s anything useful.”
Su Keke nodded and picked up her spear, indicating she was fine being alone.
Xu Yi patted her head gently, then wrapped his head again with his clothes.
Reaching the water vines, he began searching carefully.
[Number 1, you should hurry back and watch over Keke. The follow-cam is with you, and we can’t see Keke anymore.]
[Exactly. If anything happens to Keke, you’ll regret it forever.]
[Come back quickly. What value is a rotting animal? You might even catch a disease. Better be safe.]
[Though wild beasts rarely hunt during the day, it’s not impossible. If Keke gets attacked, coming back will be too late.]
[You all act like Keke can’t run. She grew up in the village and is way tougher than you keyboard warriors. Stop worrying.]
Xu Yi read the comments, then glanced at the follow-cam.
“Chat, I’m going to request a follow-cam for my daughter.”
He trusted Su Keke.
She was alert—when he mentioned investigating the rotting animal, she immediately grabbed her spear.
That meant she knew exactly what to do.
The village hunters had surely taught them how to protect themselves from wild beasts.
With a fire nearby, Keke had a decent chance of self-defense.
If she called for help, Xu Yi could rush back immediately.
Besides, before leaving, Xu Yi had scanned the area twice with his x-ray vision—no lurking animals nearby.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t dare wander off like this.
[66666, you can really get one! Now Keke has a follow-cam too.]
[Number 1, that’s impressive. You even thought to get Keke a follow-cam.]
[Maybe get some tools and weapons too. Then it’s a sure win.]
To Xu Yi’s surprise, the stream did grant the request.
He also realized the livestream had spatial delivery capabilities.
This technology might rival his own system.
Perhaps his system was still a novice compared to theirs.
Insects couldn’t enhance his abilities.
Even the same species didn’t grant rewards; when he ate the second snake, no bonus came.
He hoped eating the bird egg later might bring some reward.
He could keep track of Keke’s situation through the chat.
Having two camera views in one stream was unique.
Maybe when other challengers team up, the feed would merge into one.
Or perhaps it would remain as is.
The stench grew stronger, signifying Xu Yi was nearing the rotting animal.
Soon he saw a small depression in the ground.
It wasn’t that the carcass lay in the dip, but that distance limited his x-ray vision.
Xu Yi’s x-ray vision reached 30 meters; beyond that, his sight returned to normal.
The low area held some stagnant water, with water plants nearby.
Xu Yi spotted the rotting creature: a massive vertebrate—whether a giant python or something else, he wasn’t sure.
“Holy crap, that’s a huge python.”
“What the hell? That snake’s bigger than any in Anaconda!”
“This is terrifying. If it were alive, who could possibly kill it?”
“Whoever killed this snake must be even scarier!!!”
“This giant python is at least fifteen meters long, thicker than a small bucket—could this be what prehistoric giant snakes looked like?”
“One bite and it could swallow a wild boar whole. Too scary.”
Xu Yi felt a chill run down his spine staring at the distant giant python.
He wished he hadn’t known such a terrifying snake roamed this jungle.
Even a seven or eight-meter python would be beyond his ability to handle.
Hesitating briefly, Xu Yi walked toward it.
Such a large snakeskin, if not rotten, would be immensely useful.
It could even make a tent.
With a tent, they wouldn’t have to worry about rain at night.
Despite the awful smell, Xu Yi planned to try.
[Number 1 is so hardcore. I can smell the stench through the screen.]
[Looking at all those flies, my trypophobia is acting up.]
[Number 1, are you after the snakeskin?]
[If you’re really going for the snakeskin, this is crazy. It won’t be done quickly either.]
[Think about Keke—she’d be terrified by such a huge skin.]
[Even if you manage to peel it off, handling something that large will be tough.]
“I want to know what killed it. The corpse looks intact.”
“If an animal killed it but didn’t eat it, that’s strange.”
“If it wasn’t another creature, what could have done it?”
Xu Yi’s words sent chills through the livestream chat.
