Chapter 1: Survival Reward System

“Haha, baby, even though it’s just the two of us left, we still have a chance to win. There’s only one opponent left. Two against one, we’ve got this.”
Xu Yi stared at his phone, happy as a child.
After ten consecutive losses, he was nearly depressed.
“Daddy, stop playing games and watch cartoons with me!” A little girl came to Xu Yi’s side, tugging at his sleeve.
“Coco, be good. Daddy will be with you as soon as this game is over.” Xu Yi glanced back at the adorable girl beside him and gently patted her head.
Su Coco, six years old.
She was Xu Yi’s adopted daughter, an orphan he had met years ago while volunteering as a teacher in a village.
She had been calling him “Dad” for three years.
Previously, she lived in the village, but today Xu Yi had brought her to the city.
He wanted Su Coco to have access to better educational resources and a brighter future.

“Yi God, you actually have a daughter? Liar! Didn’t you say you were single and wanted to meet me in real life? You know I hate liars the most.”

A girl’s voice, angry and sobbing, came from the phone.
“Xiao Ning, it’s not what you think. Coco is my adopted daughter… I’m still single…”
Suddenly, Xu Yi noticed his phone’s screen had changed.
It turned into a video.
In the video, Xu Yi saw creatures resembling dinosaurs tearing at something.
He tried to switch to WeChat to explain to Lu Ning, the girl who was almost his girlfriend.
But his phone was unresponsive; he couldn’t leave the video.
Meanwhile, the TV, which had been off for ages, suddenly turned on, displaying the same scene as his phone.
Even Coco’s tablet showed the same image.
[Welcome to the Parallel World Wilderness Survival Show. This program is randomly inviting guests. Invitees who receive the card may enter the show by agreeing.]
[Reminder: Participation resulting in death will reduce your remaining lifespan by one-third. Please choose carefully.]
[No tools may be brought into the program. Invitees have half an hour to consider.]
“My system is about to awaken?” Xu Yi stared at the screen and uttered something Coco didn’t understand.
He was a reborn person, having arrived in a parallel world less than a month ago.
He’d suspected he had a system, but never imagined it would appear like this.
Suddenly, a red card appeared on the screen.
There were instructions, but Xu Yi didn’t read them closely.
“Agree.”
He didn’t hesitate and agreed immediately.
The system had to be activated first.
Then, Xu Yi felt a blinding light before his eyes.
“Daddy…”

Xu Yi felt Su Coco suddenly clutch his leg tightly, so he quickly squatted down and hugged her in return.
“Ding, Survival Reward System activating.”
Xu Yi opened his eyes and found himself in a dense forest.
“So the system really activated. Wonderful.”
“But it brought me to the wilderness so quickly, without any preparation?”
“Daddy, what are you talking about? Coco doesn’t understand at all.”
What?
Xu Yi turned to see Su Coco standing behind him.
“System, what’s going on? Why did you bring Coco here too?”
He didn’t speak aloud, but questioned inwardly.
No one answered, though.
He saw a progress bar indicating 3%.
So, the system was still activating and couldn’t answer his questions yet.
“Daddy, how is that black ball flying? And there are so many words on it—lots I don’t know.”
Xu Yi looked up in the direction Coco pointed and saw a black sphere, slightly larger than a basketball.
Beneath it was a light screen flashing with numerous words.
[Wow, that invitation card was real, someone’s actually gone to a parallel world.]
[Is this for real? Are we really watching a parallel world livestream? This is unbelievable!]
[It’s one thing that there are dinosaurs in the parallel world, but they have the internet too? That’s too fantastic!]
[I feel like I’ve missed out on another world.]
[It’s funny some people think they’ve activated a system, haha.]
Xu Yi felt uneasy as he watched the scrolling comments.
Had he and Su Coco arrived in the world from the screen?
A world with dinosaurs?
But hadn’t he activated the Survival Reward System? Why was he sent to a parallel world?
It would be one thing if it was only him, but bringing six-year-old Su Coco—wasn’t that fatal?
“Can someone explain what’s happening?” Xu Yi asked the black sphere.
He sensed things might be more complicated than he’d thought.
“Ten thousand players are being invited. An announcement will be made after the invitations.”
“Players who have entered, please remain within ten meters of your starting location, or you will be attacked.”
Hearing this, Xu Yi felt a chill down his back.
This wasn’t his system’s voice.
His system had a female voice.
Had he been reborn into a parallel world, only to enter another parallel world?
Were parallel worlds truly infinite?
“Daddy, look, there’s a squirrel!”
Su Coco pointed happily at a tree nearby.

She was still unaware of the danger around her.
This was a world with dinosaurs!
He only had clothes, pants, shoes, glasses, watch, and phone.
Su Coco had clothes, pants, shoes, tablet, and a bottle of chocolate beans.
Nothing else.
That’s all.
How could they deal with dinosaurs?
If he were in his original world, Xu Yi could survive in the wilderness for a while.
But in a world with dinosaurs, encountering one would mean certain doom.
“Coco, stay here with Daddy and don’t move.”
He had to find a way to return.
If that livestream was created by the system, there had to be a way out.
But Xu Yi suspected it wasn’t the system’s doing.
His system was probably activated to deal with this situation.
The Survival Reward System.
Who knew what kind of reward it would grant him?
Xu Yi observed his surroundings, searching for edible plants and materials to start a fire.
Some vegetation was familiar; others he’d never seen before.
After all, this was a parallel world—another Earth.
Perhaps, in this world, some dinosaurs survived the asteroid impact and evolved differently.
After more than ten minutes, Xu Yi saw his system had loaded to 90%.
Soon, it would be fully activated, and he’d learn what kind of reward he’d receive.
“Ding, system loading complete.”
“Activation gift pack issued.”
Hearing the system’s notification, Xu Yi immediately felt invigorated.
“System, open the gift pack.”
“Ding, you have received the Physical Deficiency Repair Potion, and it has been used.”
What?
No enhancement or anything?
Deficiency—what deficiency do I have?
System, are you discriminating?
And is this the only item in the gift pack?
