Chapter 39 Is That All? I Might as Well Not Fish at All
Ji Ya couldn’t be bothered to pay him any attention and turned back to continue fishing. Lin Yu suddenly had a good idea: he would use the fish as bait and cast it into the sea.
Soon, there was movement on Ji Ya’s side again. This time, she was clearly struggling more than before, almost being pulled into the sea herself. She had no choice but to ask Lin Yu for help.
“Lin Yu, come help me!”
Lin Yu stepped forward, standing right behind Ji Ya, and placed his hands in front, helping her grip the fishing rod tightly.
He couldn’t understand how Ji Ya’s luck could be so extraordinary, but seeing her struggle, as her subordinate, he dared not ignore his boss’s safety. If she were dragged into the sea, he’d have a hard time explaining it to the company.
Both of them used all their strength, but unfortunately, neither really knew how to handle the rod, resulting in an awkward situation: despite their best efforts, the creature beneath the waves was pulling them down with even greater force.
Lin Yu adjusted his posture slightly and gave a powerful tug on the rod. Before long, he caught a glimpse of their opponent—a large, jet-black fish. But as soon as they glimpsed its true form, the crazed fish dragged them all over again.
The result was that both of them pitched forward, Lin Yu’s body pressed tightly against Ji Ya’s. Although the situation was somewhat awkward, neither could care about it now; their focus was entirely on the black fish.
“Boss, step aside. Leave the rest to me.”
Ji Ya could feel Lin Yu’s eight-pack abs pressed against her, the heat of his body, his rapid heartbeat, and the clarity of his breath. Her own heart began to race unconsciously.
When Ji Ya slipped out from under his arm, her face burned with heat, as if she might catch fire.
“Be careful! Don’t get hurt—no, don’t let the fish escape, or you’ll be sorry!”
Lin Yu grunted in agreement, then spread his legs, rooting himself firmly and relying on the strength of his waist to lean back. At this point, he could think of nothing else but hauling the fish up. The immense force on both ends caused the rod to twist in a strange way.
It creaked and groaned as if about to snap, but fortunately, the fishing gear provided by the professional fishermen on the boat was not so easily broken.
Lin Yu began reeling in, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. As his movements grew more skilled, the struggling fish finally surfaced again, and Ji Ya broke into a smile.
“It’s almost out!”
Lin Yu freed one hand and managed to pull the fish upward. As it thrashed near the yacht, he netted it, dropped the rod, and hauled it onto the deck with all his strength.
The black fish was finally landed, flopping wildly on the deck and weighing close to ten pounds. The fishermen on the deck couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration.
Ji Ya stepped forward to inspect it, only to be splashed in the face by the fish.
Lin Yu couldn’t help but burst into laughter, while Ji Ya leaned happily over the fish, enjoying the program crew’s photo documentation.
Finally, the crew weighed the catch—an astonishing eleven pounds.
Ji Ya was exceedingly proud, her face beaming as she looked at Lin Yu. By noon, she felt secure enough to take a break.
Lin Yu, having caught only one fish, gazed out over the sea, lost in thought. Why couldn’t luck ever favor him? Would it kill fate to let things go smoothly for once? He, too, wanted to experience what it felt like to be pampered by the heavens.
But wishes rarely come true, and the heavens are not so idle as to listen to everyone’s dreams. His hopes would not be fulfilled so easily. Seeing Ji Ya resting so leisurely, he couldn’t help but feel a little dissatisfied.
“Boss, try a bit harder—maybe you can catch a twenty-pounder?”
Ji Ya put her sunglasses back on, her lips curling in a mysterious smile. “Do you want me to keep you company?”
“I do.”
“Then do you know I have a secret? I won’t tell anyone but you.”
“What is it?” Lin Yu’s eyes lit up. A boss’s secret was practically a treasure trove of resources!
Ji Ya smiled slightly, a questioning look on her face. “Don’t you know? I just hauled up an eleven-pound fish.”
Lin Yu: …
Impressive…
Since the two joined the show, Lin Yu had always been the one making things happen; it was rare for Ji Ya to upstage him. The livestream chat instantly exploded with laughter.
“Yes, yes, this is how it should be! Watching Lin Yu like this is so satisfying!”
“Hahahaha! After decades of fishing, he still can’t beat Miss Ji. I’m so jealous of lucky people!”
“I can’t stop laughing, though I do feel for Lin Yu.”
“Who gets it? If I had half of Miss Ji’s luck, I’d fish the whole sea bare!”
“Lin Yu worked hard all day, only to throw his catch back into the sea…”
“What’s that? Group Four has an idol who broke his hoe while plowing the field.”
“…”
Lin Yu, of course, paid no attention to the barrage of comments. He was utterly frustrated; it was nearly lunchtime, and his hook hadn’t stirred at all. Was he going to return empty-handed?
Just as he was wallowing in misery, the line spun wildly in his hands, and the rod vibrated violently, bending into an incredible arch!
Lin Yu didn’t dare hesitate for a moment. He jumped up, gripped the rod tightly, and began a fierce tug-of-war with the creature below.
Ji Ya truly didn’t know much about fishing, and faced with an even more dangerous situation than before, she was at a loss, simply watching dumbly as events unfolded.
Lin Yu was being pulled forward so hard he could barely keep his balance. His eyes filled with disbelief—just how large was the fish beneath the sea? Its strength far exceeded Ji Ya’s earlier catch!
The resistance of the water, combined with the fish’s frantic struggle, made this battle even tougher than he’d imagined.
Nevertheless, Lin Yu stabilized himself, squatted low, coordinated his waist and legs, and leaned back with all his might, pouring his entire strength into the rod. The struggle between them sent loud creaks and groans through the rod!
Ji Ya watched anxiously from the side, instinctively stepping up to hug Lin Yu’s waist and add her strength to his pull!
With the woman’s help combined with his own extreme effort, Lin Yu felt a surge of energy. He hauled back, retreating, and slowly, the fish finally revealed its true form. Just seeing the fins, Lin Yu had already made his decision.
