Chapter 131: The Promise

Li Sibai recalled the Inner Sect Competition and hurriedly inquired about it with Master Yunling.
“Hm? You want to participate in the Inner Sect Competition?”
Li Sibai nodded silently, his expression resolute, as if he was determined to do this no matter what.
Master Yunling fixed his gaze on him. Their eyes met in quiet understanding, and neither spoke for a moment.
After a short pause...
“Very well,” Master Yunling finally broke the silence.
Li Sibai felt a surge of happiness but restrained it, knowing that things would not be that simple.
Sure enough, Master Yunling continued, “But you must meet my conditions to take part.”
Li Sibai had anticipated this and was not surprised. “Please, Master, enlighten me.”
Seeing his firm resolve, Master Yunling nodded and said, “The Inner Sect Competition is three months away. You must make the most of this time to train. First, your cultivation must reach the third tier of the Qinyin Realm. Do you think you can manage that?”
Li Sibai nodded. This was already part of his plan; if he couldn’t reach this level, he had no confidence in breaking into the top twenty to earn a cultivation spot on Chonghai Island.
Observing his quick agreement, Master Yunling went on, “Second, you must master the first level of the Primordial Technique completely. This includes proficiency in fist techniques, sword techniques, body moves, and so forth. Can you achieve that?”
Li Sibai frowned slightly. The learning goals for a single skill or spell were divided into five stages: Entry, Minor Success, Proficiency, Major Success, and Perfection. Reaching Entry was already considered successful training, but attaining Proficiency demanded much more effort and time. Although he believed he could elevate his cultivation to the third tier of the Qinyin Realm within three months, adding this goal would make time truly insufficient. Time was likely to become his greatest adversary.
Noticing his hesitation, Master Yunling spoke loudly, “If you can’t, then forget it. Don’t force yourself too much. I know it’s very difficult to accomplish these in just three months, and it’s normal if you can’t.”
Hearing this, a spark ignited within Li Sibai. The hesitation vanished, replaced by firm determination. “Master, I will definitely succeed.”
Master Yunling smiled at his promise. “I believe in you!”
With that, Master Yunling laughed heartily and turned away.

Li Sibai stood frozen, expecting a third condition, but the master had already left.
Thinking it over, those two conditions were already quite demanding. If he could complete them on time, breaking into the top twenty should not be a problem. But if he failed, there would be no hope.
Realizing this, Li Sibai silently resolved to meet his goals.
His focus for the next three months was clear: to improve his cultivation and master the Primordial Technique.
As for the wind-type spell he had just learned but not yet practiced, it likely couldn’t be cultivated with primordial energy, so he would try cultivating it with true energy instead, which had been tested with wind attributes.
Li Sibai decided to test it, to see if he could cultivate it and measure its power.
He separated the primordial energy within his body back into true energy and battle energy. Suppressing the battle energy, he used the hand movements of the Wind Dance technique to channel wind-attributed true energy outward, attempting to control the surrounding air and make it rotate.
This time, unlike before when the energy silently dissipated, a small rotating air current actually formed in the air. The vortex was about a foot tall and turned slowly, but it was indeed a vortex.
Li Sibai tried injecting more true energy into it, hoping to make it bigger and spin faster.
But after several attempts, although the vortex could grow to about a meter high, once it spun rapidly, he lost control of it, and the vortex vanished instantly.
Shaking his head, Li Sibai found his true energy nearly depleted and could no longer continue.
He sat down, breathing heavily. He realized further cultivation of the Wind Dance was futile.
Although it was a three-star spell, it seemed unsuitable for him. His body contained both true energy and battle energy, with the battle energy’s attributes unknown, and their mixture appeared to affect the true energy’s properties.
Even if he abandoned battle energy and primordial energy and used only true energy to operate the spell, the effect was uncertain.
Either it would be too weak, or too strong to control. After much thought, learning this spell would likely consume more time without guaranteed results.
Considering his pending tasks, Li Sibai decided to temporarily abandon the Wind Dance, the three-star wind-type spell.

Reflecting on his three-month plan, Li Sibai realized the greatest challenge wasn’t mastering all Primordial Technique arts to proficiency, but the resources needed to improve his cultivation—specifically, the Primordial Spirit Pearls.
Training the Primordial Technique itself didn’t consume many resources. As long as he worked hard and practiced diligently every day, Li Sibai believed he could complete that task.
But cultivation advancement required genuine resources.
From previous bets and earnings from duels with fellow cultivators, he had 600 Xuantian Jade Purification Pills, but now only 150 remained. He also had one Primordial Spirit Pearl exchanged from Xiahou Lu and four more that Xiahou Lu promised to buy with the Crimson Gold Spirit Pills.
Though it seemed like a lot, Li Sibai felt it was still insufficient.
Since training the Primordial Technique, he constantly felt a void inside his body and was perpetually hungry.
Resource demands would only increase with each upgrade, and consumption would grow.
Li Sibai thought it over and concluded that his current Primordial Spirit Pearls were probably inadequate, and the Xuantian Jade Purification Pills even more so.
Considering that acquiring such resources through official means would be slow and would drain time and energy, potentially delaying his training, he felt troubled.
If only he could take on the kinds of missions that He Tianshu once led him on—those allowed quick accumulation of many Xuantian Jade Purification Pills. Even if he couldn’t absorb them all, he could find ways to exchange them for Primordial Spirit Pearls or Xuantian Jade Purification Pills.
After much pondering, he decided to consult those senior brothers he knew who were not short on money, to see if they had any good ideas or connections to help.
Thinking of this, he recalled He Tianshu and Yao Xueqing. When he returned last time, he sought them out but was told they had gone on a mission. He didn’t know if they had returned yet. It would be good to inquire again and see if they had any suggestions.
