Chapter 115: The Alley of Cultivation Arts

There weren’t many people here today, only a handful. Li Sibai glanced around and noticed that the library was divided into different sections based on various types of knowledge and attributes. Each area contained spellbooks of the same attribute for easy reference.
Some attributes had more books, while others had fewer, naturally depending on the number of practitioners and the variety of spells created.
Li Sibai found the bookshelf for the “Wind” attribute near the back. Several densely packed rows displayed spellbooks related to wind magic. He began browsing through them with satisfaction.
At first, Li Sibai was excited to read these wind spellbooks, but the more he read, the more disappointed he became.
Though there were many books, most were low-level, mostly rated one or two stars, with only a few three-star books.
At first, he patiently flipped through them, but later, he skimmed carelessly—not because he lacked the desire to learn, but because these spells were of little practical use.
Their offensive power was too weak, the defensive spells lacked sufficient resistance, and the knowledge was scattered without any coherent progression. Learning these low-level spells would only be a waste of time.
Helpless, Li Sibai browsed other attribute sections. While the coverage was comprehensive—metal, wood, water, fire, earth, wind, thunder—only low-level spells were available.
Shaking his head, he realized his expectations for this place had been too high. He decided to go downstairs to see if there might be any surprises.
The first floor mainly housed books on cultivation techniques and Taoist methods. Since most of the Xuantian Sword Sect’s disciples practiced the sect’s internal cultivation method, Xuantian Gong, there weren’t many such books collected here. However, Li Sibai found some books on alchemy and formation techniques quite interesting.
Though these were also introductory texts, they didn’t directly concern his own cultivation, but rather auxiliary practices. As a novice, this made it easier for him to absorb the knowledge without any downside.
Li Sibai quickly became engrossed in reading.
“Alchemy has existed since ancient times, used to aid cultivation and the path of immortality. By ingesting pills, one can rapidly temper the body and improve one’s constitution…”

Li Sibai soon finished the introductory alchemy book and gained a basic understanding of alchemy.
After reading, he understood that the Xuantian Yuqing Pill he had been taking could only temporarily improve his constitution and reduce the time needed to accumulate cultivation. As he absorbed more, the pill’s efficacy would diminish, making it urgent for him to find the Xuantian Taiqing Pill.
Nearby were many books on medicinal herbs. Alchemy involved a vast variety of herbs, and to become a true alchemist, one had to master the pharmacology of thousands of different herbs.
Li Sibai had previously done some herb gathering tasks at the outer gate, so he was quite familiar with common herbs and had a solid foundation.
Alchemy pills came in a dazzling array of types. Common examples included Hemostasis Pills, Qi-Replenishing Pills, Detoxification Pills, and Strength-Gathering Pills. Others helped increase cultivation, refine the body, or stimulate innate qualities, among various other uses.
For instance, in summer when mosquitoes were abundant, cultivators’ blood was usually too refined to attract insects. But those with certain elemental true qi, like fire attribute, had warmer blood and might suffer mosquito troubles. Taking a Cooling Pill could repel mosquitoes temporarily.
Some female cultivators who loved beauty would take a pill called Heavenly Fragrance Pill, which emitted a pleasant scent around them.
After reading for a while, Li Sibai became more curious about the alchemist profession and looked forward to observing alchemy up close that evening.
Unfortunately, books here could only be transcribed and not borrowed to study carefully, which was a slight regret for Li Sibai.
He was about to head to the formation technique section to see if there were any books that could compensate for the limitation of the Spirit Gathering Formation’s need for spirit stones to activate, or if there were higher-level formation books.
Suddenly, he heard two people speaking loudly nearby. Li Sibai frowned—who was so rude as to not keep quiet in the library?
Looking up to see who it was, he saw a fat man speaking to a richly dressed young man.
“Young master, I told you before, but you didn’t believe me. Now you see for yourself—the cultivation techniques here aren’t impressive. Look, they’re all low-level, not even as good as our family’s.”

The young man called “young master” held a folding fan and lightly tapped the fat man’s forehead, disdainful.
“How many times have I told you to keep your voice down? This is the Xuantian Sword Sect, not our home. You need to be more low-key here, understand? Stop making such a scene.”
Li Sibai nodded slightly. Judging by the young man’s attire, he was clearly a wealthy heir. It was surprising he could enter the Xuantian Sword Sect’s library—he was probably not an official disciple. Yet, for a rich heir to be so discreet was rare, and Li Sibai began to look upon him with some respect.
The young master continued, “But you’re right. The books here are indeed too low level and don’t match the status of the Xuantian Sword Sect. Go ask around where we can find higher-level books. It’s not worth coming all this way otherwise.”
Li Sibai snorted inwardly. It was no easy matter. There were higher-level books upstairs, but even inner sect disciples needed study points to access that area. Judging by their tone, these two were outsiders. Being allowed on the first or second floor was already a privilege; hoping to see higher-level books was just wishful thinking.
Deciding not to bother with them further, Li Sibai resumed his search for formation technique books.
But he hadn’t gone far when the fat man cheerfully returned. Curious, Li Sibai slowed down and moved closer, wanting to hear what they were saying.
The fat man was clearly used to speaking loudly. Despite the young master’s earlier warning to be quiet and low-key, he couldn’t control himself.
“Master, master!” he shouted before reaching him.
The young man’s face darkened. “What is it? Why are you so flustered?”
The fat man quickly lowered his voice and said, “Master, I just asked around. There’s a place called Cultivation Technique Alley. According to the disciples at the library entrance, you can challenge puppets there. If you pass, you can choose a corresponding cultivation technique, no lower than three stars.”
A look of pride spread across the fat man’s face.
