Chapter 43 Memory Techniques
Chapter 43: Memory Techniques
Although Guan Yuqi was mentally prepared when she saw what was in Xu Qiao's hands, she was still somewhat surprised upon hearing her answer.
Looking her up and down, Guan Yuqi asked, "Did you really run out in the middle of the night just to memorize the cipher?"
Seeing this reaction, Xu Qiao understood what she meant and could only offer a helpless smile. "Squad Leader, I know none of you truly trust me yet."
"After all, those things... were indeed done by me. Saying that I've changed isn't enough to make you believe me just with empty words."
Hearing this, Guan Yuqi felt a little awkward, but instead of brushing it off, she nodded directly. "Indeed, it is somewhat difficult for us to completely trust you right now."
"And... I don't quite understand. How did you suddenly figure things out?"
At this question, Xu Qiao was momentarily at a loss for how to reply.
She certainly couldn't say that she was no longer the original Xu Qiao, that she had been replaced by someone from another world, could she?
Even if she could say it, the other person wouldn't believe it.
Hesitating for just a moment, she replied, "Perhaps having truly faced death once gives you a completely different perspective."
"Being injured this time made me think a lot. Reflecting on what I've done over the years, I really went too far."
"My father sending me into the military must have been his last chance for me. I think... I shouldn't let them down anymore."
Hearing this, Xu Qiao let out a deep sigh. "This stuff has zero patterns to it; it's simply..."
Upon hearing these words, Guan Yuqi finally nodded. "Well, I suppose this counts as a prodigal returning to the right path?"
"Awareness campaigns have been quite widespread these years. I'm not sure if this kind of method is useful for other things, but using it for our ciphers or phone numbers is actually quite good."
"Besides, our branch requires us to memorize a relatively large amount of information, so having a better memory certainly has its advantages."
Thus, in her memory, such a technique simply did not exist.
"You're quite something, relying on pure rote memorization and managing to memorize this much."
"Squad Leader, I can manage..." Xu Qiao looked at her with a hint of surprise.
Seeing this expression, how could Guan Yuqi not understand? "Ah, so you're just like Cheng Yifei, both of you are playing tricks on me!"
Hearing those words, Xu Qiao nodded emphatically. "Squad Leader, don't worry, I will definitely do my best to catch up with everyone."
Guan Yuqi gave her a light pat on the shoulder. "Alright, you can forget about the two-week time limit mentioned before."
Guan Yuqi tapped her lightly again. "We weren't deliberately making things difficult for you."
In truth, the time she had originally given Xu Qiao was far from generous; two weeks felt like a final sprint before a college entrance examination.
She had never even dared to hope that Xu Qiao would inherit the family business or secure a proper job of her own.
Guan Yuqi took the notebook, and looking at the pages that showed signs of being thoroughly leafed through, she realized Xu Qiao had already memorized more than half of it.
Xu Qiao nodded. "Yes, my foundation... is probably a bit weak, and I need to read more books to enrich my theoretical knowledge, which is why my learning might be a bit slower."
With that, Guan Yuqi began to explain directly how to turn these seemingly random pieces of information into connected stories, which would not only make them faster to memorize but also harder to forget.
Guan Yuqi chuckled softly and sat down beside her. "How much of this have you memorized?"
There were still four days left until the two-week deadline; even though half the material remained, she believed she could finish it.
Guan Yuqi glanced at her. "This is the result of your own hard work."
"We'll take it slow; eventually, we'll learn it all."
Seeing this reaction, Guan Yuqi was instead somewhat surprised. "Have you never heard of rapid memorization techniques?"
"You must have seen those speed-reading or rapid memory training methods before. These techniques are actually quite useful."
Guan Yuqi did not object. "If you are interested, you can certainly take a look. Our library has books on this subject."
Guan Yuqi laughed out loud upon hearing this, momentarily at a loss for how to explain.
She sighed again. "My memory is actually pretty good normally, but memorizing this stuff... really has me stumped."
Xu Qiao looked at her gratefully. "Squad Leader, thank you."
Hearing that tone, Xu Qiao sensed something was amiss and looked at her. "You mean... there are other ways to memorize this?"
"So you should focus on building a solid foundation first. By the time you finish that, you'll have memorized most of this naturally as well."
Seeing that Xu Qiao did not refute, Guan Yuqi knew she had guessed correctly and sighed helplessly. "Then can you tell me how this stuff is actually supposed to be memorized?"
"I thought..."
Mid-sentence, she seemed to remember something. "I heard you've been researching networks lately?"
Seeing that Xu Qiao had managed to memorize so much through sheer brute-force rote learning, her astonishment was completely justified.
"Since that's the case, time isn't quite as critical anymore. You've fallen far behind; you can't expect to learn in a few weeks what it took the others several months to master."
Xu Qiao immediately chimed in, "You thought I hadn't been memorizing it at all, and expected me to just stubbornly rely on blind rote memorization, right?"
"You have too much to learn right now. While memorizing ciphers is important, it's obviously not something that can be rushed to completion overnight."
"I've been waiting for you to come and ask me, but who knew you never showed up?"
Of course, Xu Qiao had never heard of such things. The parents of the original Xu Qiao in this world were not the kind who constantly hovered over her studies or sent her to various cram schools—as long as she graduated smoothly and had her own hobbies, they were fine.
"It was you yourself who showed me that you were truly working hard, rather than just putting on a show for us."
Listening to all this felt like a new world opening up before Xu Qiao. "You can actually do it like that?"
She knew this meant Guan Yuqi was granting her genuine time to learn, rather than using artificial deadlines out of distrust to make things difficult for her anymore.
Guan Yuqi stopped wasting time, pulled the materials over, and said directly, "Actually, there are some special memorization techniques for this."
Xu Qiao smiled bitterly. "It's not that exaggerated, is it?"
She could only shake her head. "I've never heard of it, but since it's useful, I can look into it. Who knows... it might come in handy elsewhere too."
To her surprise, Guan Yuqi smiled and said, "That's not what I meant."
"You won't catch up in just a single day. No matter what, your health is important, so don't stay up late." With that, she patted Xu Qiao's arm. "Come on, let's head back to sleep."
Xu Qiao smiled and didn't decline any further. She nodded and followed her back.
She had already gained more than enough for one day; there was no need to push herself to exhaustion. She wasn't someone blindly stubborn about studying either, and since the squad leader had spoken, she wouldn't refuse.
The two of them walked back chatting and laughing. In just a single night, the transformation was truly immense.
