Chapter Fifty: Arrogant Ignorance Please vote and save to your favorites.
The other party’s words made everyone on Liang Jing’s side change color. However things stood, Ling Qinghe was one of their group, and she also had an ambiguous relationship with Liang Jing. In truth, it was more that Ling Qinghe kept teasing him on purpose or by accident, while Liang Jing had his own thoughts and felt that if he was ever to give up his virginity, it ought to be to the right person. Thus, whatever had happened between them was taken by the others as a flirtation. More importantly, the tone of the speaker was one of utter disregard, as if they did not exist at all. After these days of witnessing the misery of the survivors they encountered, their spirits had unknowingly risen; how could they possibly swallow such humiliation without anger? Of them all, Ling Qinghe’s expression changed the most, her face icy with fury. In an instant, everyone turned in unison toward Liang Jing, waiting only for him to nod his assent.
“You lot, hand over the woman and then get lost at once!”
On the other side stood five men: Brother Huang and four underlings. One of the underlings shouted at Liang Jing’s group, his tone full of condescending charity.
Brother Huang seemed to be waiting to see how they would react, with the air of a cat toying with a mouse. He looked very pleased with his underling’s words and behavior, thinking that this was what real swagger looked like, this was real presence. If the other side refused, he would teach them a proper lesson and see what they could do. In his mind, the possibility that anyone would dare resist had never even occurred; they had grown used to being arrogant during this period.
The other underlings were the same. Seeing that the ones on the other side were merely a group of humans, they loosened their grip on their guns and even let the weapons hang casually at their sides, while their eyes roamed over Ling Qinghe again and again, their tongues clicking.
It had to be said that Ling Qinghe had changed greatly from the way she looked when she first emerged from the office building’s restroom. She had already been dazzlingly alluring, but during this time she had not taken part in the fighting, and there was now an added air of valiant spirit about her. Her face was rosy, her skin smooth and lustrous, her figure slender yet with just enough fullness, her chest proud and lifted, and her rear especially high, taut, and round. Liang Jing had already tasted the sensation of that soft yet wonderfully springy flesh; she carried the allure of a mature woman, and her attraction to men had risen without limit. She kept teasing Liang Jing until he burned with restless desire, and on several occasions he had nearly lost control on the spot.
As servants of Young Master Tu, the Huang-named men who worked under him paid no attention at all to the expressions of the people opposite them, nor would they have noticed the fierce mask Liang Jing wore now, or the giant weapon slung across his back, the Sorrow of Baroque. It was not that they lacked discernment, but rather that they had never regarded Liang Jing’s group as anything worthy of being called an opponent. In their eyes, no one dared resist them, because the consequences would be terribly, terribly severe. That was a warning sign forged again and again with blood during this period. All they were thinking now was how, once they had captured this sexy woman, they could wring as much benefit as possible from the situation. A cat playing with a mouse was nothing more than this.
“Damn it, did you hear me? Brother Huang is in a bad mood now. Hand over the woman, kowtow three times, and get the hell out! If you keep dragging your feet and anger us, we’ll make sure you can’t live and can’t die!”
Seeing that Liang Jing’s side still made no move and offered no plea for mercy, Brother Huang became displeased. One of his clever underlings shouted insults and commands toward Liang Jing’s side, glancing back at Brother Huang now and then. The way he fawned like a lapdog was enough to make one’s eyes ache, but Brother Huang quite enjoyed it. He kept thinking that the apocalypse really was wonderful. Otherwise, before all this, after working his month in and month out, all he would have earned was a bit over two thousand yuan. How could he possibly be living so freely, comfortably, and pleasantly now? At the same time, he was extremely dissatisfied with Liang Jing’s group for clearly refusing to yield, and he had already made up his mind to play with them until they were ruined. Once a petty nobody before the apocalypse, now an awakened human, his mind had twisted in a very short time into something morbidly brutal. He had done this to many people before; hearing their screams and seeing their despair never filled him with fear, only with a faint thrill.
“Damn it, you won’t listen to instructions? Third Brother, come with me and give them a lesson. Looks like they won’t shed tears until they see the coffin. To dare ignore us is naked provocation!”
Seeing that Liang Jing and the others still had no reaction, and even looked at him as if he were a clown, the quick-witted underling grew embarrassed and angry. He called to the rough-skinned man in his thirties beside him and strode toward Liang Jing’s side, taking no notice whatsoever of the atmosphere in the air.
Behind Liang Jing, after receiving his signal, the others watched the performance before them as if watching a clown act. In their hearts, they had already marked this cruel, overbearing group for death. For now, they merely wanted to see exactly what these men would do, and they also needed a few live mouths to question about the situation. As for the possibility that these people had powerful backing, Liang Jing did not consider that at all. Kill them all, and that would be that. In times of chaos like this, people dying out in the wild was perfectly normal.
“Kneel down right now and kowtow—”
The man’s face was flushed with morbid excitement as he came up and shouted at Liang Jing’s group, but before he could finish, he could no longer speak.
Sizzle. Sizzle.
“Ah! Bastards, how dare you do this to us? You’re courting death! You’re dead for sure! Young Master Tu will not let you off! Ah!”
After Wang Meng and Tie Zhu received Liang Jing’s order, they raised the sharp short blades in their hands and cut directly toward the opponents’ feet. Their strikes were ruthless and decisive, without the slightest mercy, ferociously vicious. With two slicing sounds, the legs were severed and the men fell to the ground, yet their mouths still spewed threats out of habit.
However, the agony only made their threats more savage, and they cursed furiously. Very quickly, though, they realized something was wrong. Even louder screams erupted as they saw one of their calves already severed by the short blades and lying off to the side, blood gushing endlessly from the wound. They were instantly frozen in terror. Finished. Finished. Everything had turned out completely beyond their expectations. The other side had not taken their threats seriously at all. This was far beyond what they had imagined, especially as they saw the two men’s eyes remain utterly indifferent, their blades still poised to fall again upon them. Their hearts were flooded with fear, and they stood there in a daze.
“Stop!” As the two legless men, the direct victims, froze in horror, Brother Huang did not. Seeing that the situation was nothing like what he had expected, he bellowed.
“Ah! Ah! No, please! Spare us! Great uncles, spare us! Don’t cut anymore, it hurts!”
Sadly, Wang Meng and Tie Zhu held their short blades and were not affected in the slightest. They were cruel, cold, and terrifyingly indifferent.
“I told you to stop! Did you hear me? Are you trying to die? You’re going too far! Do you know who we are? How dare you be so arrogant! We work for Young Master Tu, and you’re dead for sure. Now every one of you, and anyone related to you, will be unable to live and unable to die!”
Brother Huang’s roar caused no response whatsoever, which only made him even more displeased, intensely so. Before the apocalypse he had been used to being ignored; now that he had finally gained power, the thing he hated most was being ignored again. Rage and shock roiled in him, but even now he still had not realized what kind of people he was facing.
The remaining two underlings beside him saw their companion, who had been lively a moment ago, suddenly have all four limbs cut away and struggle on the ground in torment. Their hearts seemed to leap into their throats. They hurriedly gripped their guns tighter. Only these things could give them a sense of safety.
“Take your fingers off the triggers. It would be best if those muzzles are not pointed this way. Otherwise the consequences will be very grim,” Liang Jing said lightly, as if he paid little attention to the firearms in their hands, only that he disliked having gun barrels aimed at him.
“Heh heh—you think you’re somebody? Fire! Kill them all! Every last one of them must die!” Brother Huang laughed wildly at Liang Jing’s warning. Did he really think he was someone special? Did he really think he was all that impressive? Go to hell. Even awakened humans were not invincible, unless they possessed special innate abilities suited to defense. Against rifles, even he would not dare to harden his body and take the shots head-on.
The two underlings obeyed, their faces twisting into savage grins as they moved to pull the triggers.
