Chapter Twenty: Alliance

“We’ve already obtained the information we needed; staying any longer will only bring trouble!”
With this thought, Ye Han sprang to his feet and dashed outward, relying on his memory to guide him.
Though his field of vision was barely a meter, his innate talent for Flowing Flame, even without cultivation, had subtly strengthened his body over time.
Even in a weakened state, his physique matched that of two grown men.
Coupled with the agility boost from his Chaotic Dance ability, he could easily make his escape.
“With that level of skill, you think you can run?”
The girl sneered, swinging her dagger straight at Ye Han’s neck.
They were all newcomers to the Star of Xiyuan. Except for Summoners of Celestial Spirit, Illusion Spirit, or Magic classes, most people—including the examinees themselves—were weak, relying almost entirely on their innate talents to navigate danger.
Sensing a blurred shadow flicker at his side, Ye Han dared not be careless and dodged backward at once.
But the girl pressed on relentlessly, giving him no chance to break free.
Relying on the initial 50% agility boost from his Chaotic Dance talent, Ye Han narrowly evaded her attacks within the stone chamber, all the while searching for a way to break the deadlock.
He did not employ any other abilities—this wasn’t arrogance, but caution. He was certain this girl, like Chen Xu and the others, could communicate with her Bonded.
Even Xu Fatty was unaware of his true talents.
The moment she made her move, her strength was revealed.
After probing, Ye Han determined that she, like himself, was unranked—a beginner.
It wasn’t worth exposing his abilities to an enemy of this level.
Besides, there was still something Ye Han hadn’t figured out: was the boy on the ground truly under the red-robed girl’s control?
And when the boy entered, that drop of blood which had triggered his wariness—was it accidental, or deliberate?
If deliberate, what was the boy’s aim?
As he maneuvered around, Ye Han subtly shifted towards the boy’s position.
No matter what, he needed to deal with that boy first.
But just as Ye Han was edging closer, the boy on the ground suddenly burst out laughing.
“She really is a fool!”
Dragging his chain, the boy rose to his feet, a sudden blue light flaring around him.
The radiance sliced through the void—gone in an instant.
Ye Han felt a chilling coolness, and his vision blurred. The illusion of the desolate field shattered in a heartbeat.

Ye Han’s consciousness broke free from its shackles, his awareness spreading across ten li in a flash.
“My boss thinks you’ve got potential and wants to form an alliance!”
The boy smashed the chain across his chest with a single blow, flicked his sleeve, and a fragment shot out, pinning the girl to the stone wall.
He jerked his chin at her. “Here, a meeting gift!”
“Why?”
Ye Han was unfazed, gazing at the boy with calm indifference.
The girl died not understanding how this boy had suddenly risen up and killed her in a single move.
“Because her two talents were useless,” the boy replied bluntly.
“Mine are even worse,” Ye Han said with a faint smile, flicking his fingers.
The boy nodded toward the partially exposed spatial gate. “Using a portal on the first day with such poor physical stats—my boss figures you’re probably from the tech side.”
“And then?”
Ye Han flopped into a chair and gestured for the boy to sit as well.
The boy took the seat without hesitation. “My boss is betting you won’t ally with Luan Shuangyu.”
As he spoke, he nudged a stone on the floor with his foot, revealing a disguised signal repeater.
Ye Han glanced at the “stone,” his eye twitching slightly.
“What’s your name? Is your boss also from that sequence?” Ye Han eyed him with suspicion.
Could Luan Shuangyu’s name be famous enough to reach their sequence?
Then again, perhaps so. Fewer than 300 people had level-three access in the Ninth Sequence, and all the current sequence’s candidates together numbered less than 7000.
It was only natural for them to have collected related data.
“Gu Eleven.”
Gu Eleven tapped his chest to stanch the bleeding. “My boss said there’s no harm in telling you. We’re from the Third Sequence.”
“Enigma?!”
Ye Han’s expression shifted slightly as he glanced at the girl pinned to the wall.
“She should be from the Seventh Sequence.”
Gu Eleven shrugged and pointed at her. “When I arrived, she was just rewriting this body’s data. Only those androgynes from the Seventh Sequence have that ability.”
“Then how did you come by this identity?” Ye Han stood, staring at Gu Eleven.
Those who descended with identities should be Bonded, while Gu Eleven, as a summoned entity, should not possess an identity.
“Hypnosis, of course!”
Gu Eleven tested his hand and looked at Ye Han. “You didn’t think all of us Enigma types rely solely on our innate talents, did you?”

“When did you hypnotize the butler?”
Ye Han recalled that the butler had mentioned a group of women in the house and had produced two contracts.
Yet there had only been a man and a woman present.
At the time, he’d been distracted by the nuclear explosion and hadn’t pursued the oddity.
Now it seemed that, during the handover with his substitute, the butler and Gu Eleven had already interacted.
“When I arrived at random, the butler saw me.”
Gu Eleven pulled a porcelain bottle from his clothes and began bandaging his wounds in front of Ye Han.
“These wounds are all thanks to that fool. She even tried to play the victim. If my boss hadn’t forbidden me to act, I’d have killed her long ago!”
“Shadow Mist and the Crown of Desire are far stronger than my talents,”
Ye Han shook his head, as if regretting the other’s choices.
“But her intelligence was lacking.”
Gu Eleven paused and analyzed coolly, “After restraining you, if she’d simply enslaved the slaves outside and had them attack, at the very least she could have forced you to reveal one of your trump cards.
But she was too arrogant—she insisted on killing you herself. Who knows what she was thinking?
And then, to top it off, she revealed her own trump cards so easily. Clearly, whoever trained her was an idiot—unworthy of my boss’s cooperation.”
Ye Han listened, then rose from his chair with a soft laugh. “Ninth Sequence: Ye Phantom. I accept your boss’s proposal.”
There was no way to work with Luan Shuangyu.
Killing someone from the same faction wouldn’t increase the reward pool. Eliminating a candidate would only double the number of erasures.
Besides, Gu Eleven hadn’t probed Ye Han’s talents yet; whether he could kill him was uncertain.
Even if he could, it would only grant twenty more summon slots.
If he failed, Ye Han would learn vital secrets about his talents.
The cost was high, the success rate unknown, and the rewards limited—it was only logical for the other side to propose an alliance.
Ye Han would have done the same.
After all, it was just a verbal pact. When the time was right and the prey fattened, the harvest would be greater.
The only thing that mattered was choosing the perfect moment to strike.
Hearing Ye Han agree to the alliance, Gu Eleven paused for a few breaths before replying, “My boss asked me to welcome you on her behalf. Third Sequence, Shadow Minor.”
With that, the two exchanged a knowing handshake.
