Each person harbored their own thoughts, and in the end, Lin Yichen left.

Gu Qingwan stood before Gu Luosheng’s room, her gaze clouded with uncertainty. Gu Luosheng, you’ve been gone for five years—why did you have to come back?

Gu Yunzhou, seeing that Gu Qingwan remained silent and withdrawn, assumed she was still upset about what had happened earlier. He spoke softly to comfort her, “Qingwan, don’t be sad. Your second brother will always stand up for you.”

“Thank you, Second Brother. I’m not feeling very well—I’d like to rest in my room,” Gu Qingwan pressed her hand to her forehead, her face etched with pain.

Gu Yunzhou slapped his thigh in regret. “It’s all my fault. I forgot you can’t handle such agitation. Nanny Wang, come here and help the young lady back to her room to rest.”

“Yes, Young Master,” Nanny Wang hurried over to support Gu Qingwan, and together, they went upstairs.

Left alone in the living room, Gu Yunzhou grew increasingly agitated the more he thought about what had transpired. Unable to contain his anger, he pushed open the door to Gu Luosheng’s room and found her standing by the window, lost in thought.

“Gu Luosheng, what did you promise me when you came back? Was it so hard to apologize? Do you realize that Qingwan is ill because of you? Do you still see me as your second brother?”

“Second Brother?” Gu Luosheng turned to look at him, a mocking smile tugging at her lips. Under her gaze, Gu Yunzhou felt an odd discomfort.

“Gu Yunzhou, you’ve kept me imprisoned in Camphor Village all these years—I haven’t even begun to settle that score with you.”

“When did I ever imprison you? Do you have any proof for what you’re saying?”

A cold laugh escaped her. “Five years ago, you forced me to Camphor Village to work. Every time I tried to leave and find a job elsewhere, you would bribe my employers to fire me. You even sent people to rob me. If I hadn’t returned to Camphor Village to work, I would have starved to death long ago.”

Gu Yunzhou, full of self-assurance and utterly unrepentant, replied, “Fine, then do you have evidence? Go to the police if you can! If you have what it takes, have me arrested.”

“Gu Yunzhou, from today onward, you are no longer my second brother. Our ties are severed!” Tears brimmed in Gu Luosheng’s eyes, but the stubbornness in her gaze made something in Gu Yunzhou’s heart twist painfully.

She picked up the small bundle lying unopened on the bed, brushed past Gu Yunzhou, and walked out.

Realizing what was happening, Gu Yunzhou barked, “Gu Luosheng, if you walk out that door, don’t ever come back!”

Bang—

The only reply was the heavy slam of the door.

“Damn it!” Gu Yunzhou cursed, slamming his fist against the door. He slumped back onto the sofa, fishing a cigarette from his pocket and trying to light it.

But after several attempts, the cigarette wouldn’t catch—his hands were trembling uncontrollably.

He snapped the cigarette in half, and memories from childhood suddenly flooded his mind. Back then, he and Gu Luosheng had been inseparable.

He would always shout, “Luosheng, if anyone dares bully you, just tell your second brother—he’ll beat them up for you!”

The tangled thoughts left Gu Yunzhou irritable and restless. His gaze drifted to the villa’s main entrance. He walked over, about to open the door, when Nanny Wang’s voice called from the stairway.

“Young Master, the young lady would like you to come keep her company.”

His hand froze on the door handle. After a long pause, he replied with a single word, “Alright.”

This was all Gu Luosheng’s fault anyway. She’s always targeting Qingwan—am I not even allowed to say a word to her?

Gradually, Gu Yunzhou’s heart settled. “Gu Luosheng, you’ve spent five years in Camphor Village. Now that you’ve left the Gu family, where else can you possibly go?”

Convinced that Gu Luosheng had no other options, he composed himself and headed upstairs.

……

Just as Gu Yunzhou had said, once she left the Gu family, Gu Luosheng truly didn’t know where to go.

Returning to Camphor Village was out of the question.

But if she tried to find a new job, would Gu Yunzhou interfere again?

Lost in thought, Gu Luosheng walked on. A black Mercedes G63 pulled up beside her. The driver got out and addressed her, “Miss Gu, my young master would like a word with you.”

Gu Luosheng looked at him in confusion. “Your young master?”

The window lowered slowly, and a man’s face emerged against the light. His eyes were as deep as a tranquil pool, his handsome features so striking that everything around him faded into the background.

“Lin Yichen…”

“Where are you going? I’ll give you a ride,” Lin Yichen’s voice was as indifferent as ever—just as she remembered.

“No need, but thank you for your kindness, Young Master Lin,” Gu Luosheng lowered her gaze, politely refusing.

Lin Yichen’s brow furrowed. “Get in. I have something to ask you.”

The driver, understanding the cue, opened the rear door. “Please, Miss Gu.”

After a moment’s hesitation, Gu Luosheng got in. Since Lin Yichen was offering her a ride, she might as well ask to be taken to Gu Corporation—she wanted to see her eldest brother, Gu Yunqi.

“I want to go to Gu Corporation,” she told the driver.

The driver glanced at Lin Yichen, who gave a slight nod. Only then did the driver reply, “Very well, Miss Gu.”

Lin Yichen’s gaze fell on the bundle in her arms. “What are you carrying?”

“Luggage.”

“Luggage?” Lin Yichen raised an eyebrow. Who still traveled with a cloth bundle these days? It was a rare sight.

“Where have you been these past five years?”

“There’s no need for small talk, Young Master Lin. If you have nothing to say, then let’s not speak,” Gu Luosheng replied coolly. She hadn’t forgotten—though she and Lin Yichen had grown up together, he had never cared much for her company.

In the past, she would chatter endlessly around him, only to be met with his impatience.

Lin Yichen had always resented being alone with her.

It wasn’t until Gu Qingwan appeared that Gu Luosheng understood—Lin Yichen’s indifference wasn’t simply his nature. He just didn’t like her.

Yet with Gu Qingwan, Lin Yichen was all patience—listening attentively to her every word, handling everything for her without complaint.

Those were the very things Gu Luosheng had once longed for most.

But later, in Camphor Village, she finally understood—twenty years of unrequited love had run its course.

“What do you mean by that?” Lin Yichen’s voice turned cold, the atmosphere in the car growing tense. The driver in the front seat realized his young master was angry.

Gu Luosheng sensed it too. In the past, when Lin Yichen spoke to her in that tone, it meant he was displeased; she’d obediently fall silent, not daring to make a fuss.

But now, Gu Luosheng simply wanted to lay everything bare. “Lin Yichen, I admit I used to like you.”

“I also know you never liked me. It’s my fault for not understanding and causing you so much trouble.”

“But now, I’ve made peace with it. I won’t disturb your life anymore.”

Faced with her frank admission, Lin Yichen suddenly didn’t know what to say.

The driver struggled to keep a straight face—was he supposed to be listening to this conversation? Maybe just a bit more…
