Chapter 22: Is Shi Zhiyan a Talisman Master?
"Hmph, that wretch Ming Xi is truly audacious! To think she would dare to steal Crimson Resonance! Does she not know that the long spear, Crimson Resonance, was intended for me to bind once I reached the Heavenly Profound realm? This bitch has truly gone too far!"
Ming Yue gritted her teeth fiercely, glaring with hatred at the entrance of Shi Zhiyan's residence.
Regardless of the Emperor or his imperial decree, for this alone, she was determined to kill that wretch today!
When the gates opened and she saw Shi Zhiyan standing there calmly prepared for battle, her rage only intensified. This young man, with his noble status, immense power, and striking features—why would he help that wretch? What could she possibly offer him? Or was it that... she had bribed him with some benefit?
"Miss Ming, have you finished glaring? Your eyes are starting to look like bulging goldfish eyes," Shi Zhiyan remarked, clearly displeased by her gaze and delivering his sarcasm without mercy.
"You! Spare me the nonsense! Hand over that wretch Ming Xi immediately!"
"A wretch? My residence is not a brothel; where would I find a 'wretch' here?" Shi Zhiyan continued to tease, showing no intention of fighting a woman, yet his cutting words only fueled Ming Yue's burning rage.
"Don't play dumb with me! Ming Xi is in your house, isn't she? Will you hand her over or not? If you don't, I will burn your house to the ground right now!" As she spoke, Ming Yue signaled with her eyes. Several guards raised torches and surrounded the entrance of the residence, waiting for her command.
Unexpectedly, Shi Zhiyan showed no trace of fear. He closed his eyes slightly, not bothering to look at her, and calmly spat out four words: "Burn it, if you dare."
*What? So calm?* Ming Yue’s eyes widened, feeling insulted once again. The next second, she blurted out, "Set it on fire!"
The guards obeyed and threw their torches onto the firewood stacked outside the gate. To their shock, when the flames touched the wood, there was absolutely no reaction!
The guards were stunned and hurriedly tried again, but the result remained the same—nothing!
"Second Young Miss... this..." The guards were aghast. No matter how they tried to ignite the fire, the wood remained completely unaffected!
"What... what is happening?!" Ming Yue was also taken aback!
"Miss Ming, go ahead and light it... can you stop dawdling? I still have to go back and read," Shi Zhiyan said, the corners of his mouth curling upward. Seeing the panic among the group, he couldn't help but want to laugh. After all, these fellows were centuries too early if they thought they could set his house ablaze!
"You... what kind of dark sorcery did you use?!" Ming Yue’s brows knitted tightly together as she clenched her fists.
"Dark sorcery? Miss Ming, can you not even tell the difference between dark sorcery and incantation magic?" Shi Zhiyan raised his eyes slightly, staring at her. Ming Yue was shocked by his reply!
*Incantation magic? Is he using incantations?*
*...Is this guy a Spellcaster?!*
On the Profound Spirit Continent, Spellcasters were a rare profession. This was because becoming one required immense talent and rigorous training. Consequently, those who could become Spellcasters were few and far between, yet exceedingly powerful. Even if they existed, they were usually from the Beast-kin clans and often associated with imperial factions. They seemed to possess knowledge of mystic arts, wielding abilities that defied human imagination!
And this Shi Zhiyan, he was actually a Spellcaster?!
Ming Yue could not help but take two steps back, carefully observing the man who was on the verge of entering the Heavenly Profound realm and was, on top of that, a Spellcaster.
His appearance was incredibly refined; his exquisite, painting-like features were beyond reproach!
Yet, why would such a gifted and handsome young man protect that good-for-nothing Ming Xi? What could she possibly have to offer?
"I don't care! Today, I must see Ming Xi's corpse! Although I am only at the sixth grade of the Purple Profound realm, it does not mean I will lose to you!"
Hearing the commotion outside, Xiao Tong could not help but try to wake her slumbering mother.
"Mother! Mother! They are fighting outside! Don't you want to watch? It's Godfather and Second Aunt fighting!" Xiao Tong said with excitement.
"They're fighting? What does that have to do with me... don't bother me..." Ming Xi rolled over and continued to sleep, showing no intention of getting up.
At that moment, little did they know that several guards had already scaled the back wall and were advancing toward the house.
"Mother, there seem to be footsteps outside the door," Xiao Tong whispered, hearing the guards' movements and growing nervous.
"Stop making up excuses to bother me... I'm not getting up, and that's that..."
"Mother, Xiao Tong isn't lying! It really sounds like someone has broken in!"
