Chapter 1: Beginning with the Sea-Calming Divine Needle, an Exaggerated 99 Soul Rings!

A splitting pain tore through his head.

Xu Yan awakened from his stupor to behold an astonishingly beautiful face.

His vision was somewhat blurred, but he could make out that the woman before him was not only strikingly attractive but of considerable status.

She crouched down, seemingly checking his condition.

Xu Yan quickly grasped the situation: he had transmigrated.

This was a world without magic or battle energy, where only wondrous Martial Spirits existed—a continent known as Douluo.

“Are you kidding me? I actually transmigrated to Douluo Continent?” Xu Yan thought in disbelief.

Under the woman’s scrutiny, Xu Yan managed to sit up, as if rallying for a final burst of life.

He nearly brushed his lips against hers in the process.

The woman rose, eyebrows arched coldly, and said with a detached tone, “Since you’re not dead, stand up.”

Yan sneered, “Useless trash, you ended up like this just from a thousand-year soul beast.”

“Nana, I think we should leave this waste behind. The Spirit Hall has plenty who can protect you.”

Having nearly seen Xu Yan steal a kiss from the goddess of his heart, Yan’s hostility surged.

Were it not for Hu Liena’s presence, he would have already tried to kill Xu Yan.

Hearing this, Xu Yan felt indignant—he had barely arrived in this world and was already met with such malice.

This was near the central region of the Star Dou Great Forest, where powerful thousand-year soul beasts roamed.

He had come to hunt soul beasts because Hu Liena needed them, and as the Spirit Hall Saintess’s bodyguard, it was his duty to accompany her.

In other words, he was cannon fodder.

Yet when they encountered a formidable eight-thousand-year soul beast, he should have escaped unscathed, but Yan had set him up.

Everyone else in the group perished, and the original owner of this body died as well.

“Enough nonsense.” Hu Liena’s icy gaze flicked to Yan before she looked toward Xu Yan. “Xu Yan, are you all right?”

Xu Yan wanted to say, “I nearly died—what do you think?”

But he kept that to himself and shook his head. “Thank you for your concern, Your Highness. I am fine.”

“Rest here for a while.” Hu Liena’s tone remained indifferent as she stood aside.

Yan watched Hu Liena step away and quickly scampered after her. “Nana, wait for me.”

Xu Yan frowned. Why was this fool so sycophantic?

He clenched his fist in his sleeve—not out of spite, but simply wanting to put Yan in his place.

[Ding! Sign-in opportunity detected. Would you like to sign in?]

Without hesitation, Xu Yan sat down and silently agreed.

[Ding! Sign-in successful! Congratulations, host has obtained the Sea-Calming Divine Needle, innate full soul power, and an adaptive ‘grow stronger when challenged’ constitution.]

[Ding! Martial Spirit Weapon Arsenal now unlocked. Host may use it at any time!]

Xu Yan was momentarily stunned.

Wasn’t the Sea-Calming Divine Needle the monkey’s weapon?

[Ding! Sea-Calming Divine Needle attribute panel unlocked. Please have a look!]

A faint smile curled Xu Yan’s lips. With this staff, he could move mountains, stir the oceans, lay waste to heaven and earth, crush mountains and rivers.

But wasn’t this cheat a bit too overpowered?

And could he even wield the Sea-Calming Divine Needle?

[Host attribute panel, please check.]

[Host: Xu Yan]

[Age: 18]

[Role: Bodyguard to the Saintess of Spirit Hall]

[Soul Power: Level 25 Grand Soul Master]

[Mental Power: 50 points (Spirit Origin Realm)]

[Martial Spirit: Sea-Calming Divine Needle (fully accessible)]

[Soul Rings: Gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold (Due to the host’s unique physique and status, soul ring quantity and color may be selected freely. Note: Up to 99 soul rings for intimidation purposes.)]

Xu Yan eyed the panel, puzzled by the freedom to choose soul ring combinations.

He remembered the Douluo Continent cultivation system allowed for a maximum of nine soul rings per soul master.

Soul rings corresponded to levels and were obtained by absorbing the power of hunted soul beasts.

But since the system highlighted this was mainly for show, there was no issue.

Upon reflection, his identity truly was unique—perhaps the system’s rules needn’t adhere to this world’s.

He had already reached level 25 so quickly, probably thanks to the original owner’s foundation.

Yet, how could someone so weak have been assigned as Hu Liena’s bodyguard?

It made no sense.

From now on, he would be a truly competent bodyguard.

Meanwhile, Yan, ever sycophantic toward Hu Liena, found himself ignored.

He approached Xu Yan, clearly seeking trouble—most likely hoping to get Xu Yan out of the way for some alone time with Hu Liena, or to find a pretext to kill him.

“Hey, Xu Yan. Since you’re rested, go scout the area for any dangers.”

“Trash, rookie, useless.”

He muttered curses as he walked away.

Xu Yan was left staring blankly—what was wrong with this guy?

Could he beat him up?

The opponent was a level 52 Power Attack Battle Soul King with five soul rings.

Could he really win?

That was why Yan dared to order him around.

Fine, you’re superior, you’re amazing, you’re a level 52 Soul King—happy now?

But he couldn’t tolerate this any longer.

If he couldn’t endure it, he’d just have to fight.

[Reminder: As long as the opponent is below Soul Sage, the host can defeat them.]

With this assurance from the system, Xu Yan felt emboldened.

With the divine staff and a constitution that grows stronger against adversity, he had nothing to fear.

“Why are you still here?” Yan’s presence radiated like flames, his gaze icy. “Need me to help you?”

He was certain Xu Yan would not dare defy him, as in his eyes, Xu Yan was a lowly servant of Spirit Hall.

Yan refrained from striking immediately, intending to turn away.

“Hey!”

Xu Yan’s indifferent voice called after him.

“Huh?” Yan looked back, puzzled.

He saw Xu Yan, face dark as a thundercloud, rising to his feet, fists clenched. Yan grinned. “Lowly servant, are you angry?”

Xu Yan’s body trembled as his soul power erupted. Seven golden soul rings flared around him.

They whirled about him in dazzling radiance.

The smile on Yan’s face froze instantly, replaced by shock.

“How is this possible?”

Xu Yan gripped the golden staff, golden light flickering in his eyes.

“You miserable wretch, you’ve gone too far! I’ve tolerated you long enough!”

ps: Dear readers, many of you have suggested not to add too many martial spirits, so from now on, sign-ins will yield only three: the Golden Staff as a weapon spirit, the Soul Power Fruit spirit, and the Kunpeng spirit—just these three. The Tenseigan will not be considered a martial spirit. Please continue to share your thoughts, especially those reading via browser.
