“Secretary Xu, you...” Xiao Wang had finally come back to herself, only to start stammering again. “You—you want to go watch?” She turned her stiff body toward the president’s office and shuddered involuntarily. Secretary Xu was incredible!
“I do!” Her expression was intensely serious. She had just begun to explain her feelings when the telephone in the secretarial office rang at exactly the right moment.
Ruan, who was closest, casually picked it up. “Hello? Ah—yes, yes. All right, we’ll be there right away!” After hanging up, she looked at Secretary Xu. “Sister Xu, your chance has arrived!”
She pointed at the telephone beside her and said blankly, “President Xie asked someone to bring in a glass of milk!”
Milk. There was no need to guess—it certainly was not for him, since they had never prepared milk before. How considerate of him!
“Wow, the heavens are on my side! Leave it to me!” Secretary Xu scampered toward the pantry, completely ignoring the two stunned women behind her.
“Ruan, I don’t think I have the courage.” Although President Xie was exceptionally pleasing to the eye, every time she saw those cool, indifferent eyes, a chill rose from the depths of her heart, entirely beyond her control.
“Same here!” She had once said that President Xie could make people unable to tear their eyes away with a single glance. Yet perhaps very few people truly had the courage to face him head-on. He was elegant and noble, but so detached and distant that no one could get close.
While the two women were lost in thought, Secretary Xu had already prepared the milk with impressive efficiency. As she passed the door of the secretarial office, she did not forget to wave her little hand before departing in high spirits.
“Let’s silently pray for Sister Xu.” The two women exchanged glances for several seconds, then solemnly nodded in agreement.

Holding the milk, Secretary Xu stood before the president’s office and knocked. When she heard a response from inside, she pushed the door open and closed it behind her. The moment she turned around, she was captivated by the scene before her.
The super beauty they had spoken of was sitting on a sofa not far away, her elbows resting on her neatly pressed legs and her slender, fair fingers supporting her chin. Her profile was exquisite and flawless, her gaze fixed on President Xie.
Leaning against the desk, Xie Chenjing had rolled his shirt sleeves up to his elbows. His left hand was in his pocket, while his right rested lightly on the desk. The coolness surrounding him was touched with warmth, and sunlight from outside the window enveloped his figure. His features were striking, and his focused gaze rested on the girl, filled with tender affection.
The scene was so beautiful that Secretary Xu could not bear to disturb it. Yet the girl slowly turned to look at her. In that instant, Secretary Xu finally understood why everyone had been so astonished.
Her brows were delicate, her features exquisite; every line of her face was rendered with perfect fineness, surely a special favor from the Creator. And her eyes—clear and luminous, yet carrying an alluring charm—seemed to conceal endless stories, making one yearn to explore them, to draw closer, to protect her.

She cast a faint glance at the glass in Secretary Xu’s hand, her brows drawing together slightly in displeasure. The sight was so heartrending that Secretary Xu nearly threw the glass away.
Please don’t dislike me! I’m a good person!
“I don’t like milk!” Chu Yitong looked back at Xie Chenjing, her slightly husky voice calm and unhurried. “I can sleep just fine without drinking milk!”
“Yiyi, be good.” On the way in the car, she had not been feeling particularly well, and handling everything would take some time. He had wanted her to drink a little milk to calm her nerves and sleep properly. But no matter how he tried to persuade her, she simply refused.
“Sleep... sleep...” Secretary Xu’s eyes widened like bells, and she covered her mouth tightly, not daring to continue.
Xie Chenjing raised his brows slightly and looked at her with an expression that was almost, but not quite, a smile. His voice remained utterly even. “Secretary Xu, if there’s nothing else, you may leave.”
